Leatherwood Was Being Targeted By Others In First Round

The scouts and teams value him more than Mel Kiper. The teams make the decisions and the "value" is TV theatrics. Leatherwood was always a first rounder, by the real decision makers. You don't risk trading down and have someone draft the player you want. It isn't how this thing works.

man we could have traded down with minny, got the extra pick and still got leatherwood, the ravens had zero chance of getting to leatherwood

Leatherwood was Cable's pick. Who has a better knowledge of offensive line players, Kiper or Cable?

Who's to say the Ravens wouldn't have traded up or another team like the Colts drafted leatherwood. The drafts are not run like a mock draft on PFF or the draftnetwork. On the websites you get do overs. No do overs in real time. You take the man you want. Simple.

we will never know because the raiders took leatherwood earlier then anybody thought was possible but we do know the raiders were offered a deal to swap picks by a team in need of left tackle and they turned it down and minny was the only other team whom ended up picking a tackle afterward

Well if that is the case, feel a bit better....We know Gruden loves the power run game.....Leatherwood will move mountains.

Feel the same way defensively as well, would think Bradley had a good amount of input on the players on the board. Deablo fills the Kam role. Moehrig will roam Thomas' role.

Have they released a YouTube video of MM and Gruden giving him a call on draft night?

Jerry McDonald got it right. "The Leatherwood pick will always be debated even if he's a legit starter for a decade because lots of armchair GMs know everything
about everybody else's draft boards. Kind of like some of my family members think they're doctors because they read WebMD."

Dunking on the Raiders' first-round selection has become a new tradition during draft season. This year, it was Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden's decision to select Alex Leatherwood with the 17th overall pick. You know you made a surprising move when Daniel Jeremiah's immediate response is, "This one's a little bit of a ... it's an interesting pick." Right tackle was a position of need for the Raiders, but Leatherwood was widely labeled as a reach. We heard similar things about Clelin Ferrell in 2019 and Damon Arnette in 2020. Public perception ultimately doesn't matter a lick, but Vegas needs to start hitting on some of these unorthodox moves if the franchise is to move forward.
