Actually those stats are false, if you really want to know what is going on look at game sales, that is what matters most. Take a game that both systems have and look at its sales for each. for most games it is actually pretty equal, even rentals. sometimes xbox is head sometimes ps2, sometimes they're so close it doesn't even matter.

Lets take a look at some real statistics, and why this is.


They get 43 percent from console sales, oooo.

pretty much everybody I know has owned 2 to 3 ps2s due to defects, second playstation made the slimline, a lot of previous ps2 owners trade there in and get that, you also have the PSX which is rarer. Between those 3 things it bloats up ps2 and makes the sale/market share bigger.


xbox sales 5.4 games per console compared to ps2 3.2 games per consoles.


when you add xbox sales more games per console, and the fact that most xbox owners don't have to buy 2 or 3 extra consoles due to defects and the fact that xbox is xbox, they didn't make other version like ps2 that also bloat the sales, see the sales of the actual console are worthless because both playstation and microsoft lose money, nintendo is the only one that gains.

My point is, ps2 might have a bigger market share because it has more consoles sold total, but in terms of game sales they're pretty equal, that is why microsoft is getting a lot of playstation only exclusives that where 3rd parties.

Attention all gamers!

Does anyone have information on the price range for the Xbox or PS3? I am still undecided but I am leaning towards XBOX 360. I know that when a new system comes out it costs a grip load of money. I just don't know how much it's going to cost. Someone also told me that you are going to need to by memory cards now for the XBOX 360. One thing I liked about the old XBOX, is that you didn't need to purchase memory cards unlike the PS2.

They're wrong; the 360 will come in two different packages, the base package will be at $300 and a premium package with over $200 of accesories will be at $400; you need either the hard drive ($100.) or a memory card to save games, I recommend the hard drive because it let's you play old Xbox games...

The ps3 doesn't have an announced price point yet but it's gonna be expensive, however it's also going to do a lot more, not only in terms of performance but in what peripherals you can connect to it (bluetooth, Blu-Ray DVD technology, etc) Basically, buying a PS3 is going to be more costly but will have a lot more value in the long run because of its versatility. Further, Xbox has made a mint off of claiming to be gaining ground on Sony but it's really in no better of a second place position than the N64 was in the last generation. One important thing to note is that the American market doesn't decide what console is going to be #1 - Japan does, and Japan hates Xbox. No sleek new asthetics are going to change the fact that the Xbox is a system targeted at American gamers who like FPS' and cussing out twelve year olds with a robot voice over Xbox Live. The Xbox's main (i.e. only) advantage over the PS2 is its power and its better online gaming. The PS3, regardless of its true specs, will be more powerful than the 360. I will concede that the Xbox market will probably continue to have a better online gaming community, so basically if you are a hardcore FPS gamer who needs to play online, the 360 will be your best bet. Any other situation, the Ps3 is superior in technology, franchises, versatility, and support. If you're a casual gamer, don't care about the power, and want to leave your wallet in consideration, I would have to go with the Revolution. It plays almost every single Nintendo game EVER made, will be priced economically, and its controller, though a huge risk, looks to deliver on the namesake of the console (you can use it as a bat, tennis racket, golf club, sword, gun, etc, and it has attachments to make it work like a "normal" controller) I'm obviously a Sony fanboy, but I also seriously think it's a mistake for someone who only plans on buying one of the next gen consoles to hurry and buy a 360. At least wait til they're all out and compare them. I was going to buy a Ps3 and then a 360, but with the largely unimpressive launch titles (360's NBA2k6 and Madden barely look better than the Xbox version, and you can't even challenge plays) I'm going to go with a Ps3 and a Revolution. Woah woah woah. So you wanna pay more for games? Blu-ray disks are going to cost more than DVDs. The PSP and iPod connect to the Xbox, I really can't believe that you are claiming more versatility with the PS3. It really boggles my mind and flies in the face of any analyst articles I've read.

Do you play on live? What times do you play? Have you played with canadians? Australians? French? British? Japan? I've played at various times throughout the day and night and to say that you're only going to be playing with "American gamers who like FPS' and cussing out twelve year olds with a robot voice" is the most biased, lack of objectiveness statement I've ever heard. I've played with some punks, and I've played with some pretty cool dudes from every country including Japan. XBL for 360 is even better in this department cuz there's 4 different arenas to game in: family, pro, underground, and recreational. You are really talking out your backside in a major way. Also, maybe I've been lucky for the tons of hours I've spent on live, but to hear anyone use the voice mod is a rarity.

The difference is marginal and if you knew anything about procedural synthesis, XNA, or software at all you would understand that the hardware isn't the next gen focus for MS. Software is where the true upgrade is taking place on the 360.

Uh no it isn't. The Cell that Sony uses has been passed on by quite a few people including Apple because of its lack of versatility. Lets see what franchises are you saying that Sony still has the edge on? You should really research the developers who are onboard for the 360. Now if you're talking about GranTurismo and other sony first person titles, than that is a matter of opinion. I really wanna know which developers haven't opened up their market to 360 because the list is staggering and quite a black eye for Sony.

I've always had a nintendo console, every generation. Nintendo is underwhelming me in a major way this gen.

I was a Sony fanboy for PS1. They were assholes about problems with their customer support. I sampled quite a few of their operators and they all sucked. Fast forward to my Xbox which was picked up and delivered by DHL after the warrantee expired when it got filled with dust and dog hair.

At least wait til they're all out and compare them.

If you haven't preordered, you might be waiting no matter what. Waitaminute, those aren't FPS!? Dude, you've got some serious issues if you think these launch titles are unimpressive. 360 launch titles that have a better avg. rating than any release save maybe the Dreamcast? Unimpressive you say? How many of the games have you actually sat down and played for any amount of time? I could never imagine giving an unimpressive and lackluster review of games for any other platform that I didn't at least sit down in front of for at least 3 hrs. You won't hear me raggin on Ps3's titles till I actually do.

Its a nice Sony cheerleading, kool-aid drinking piece but I doubt you helped any fence-sitters, much too biased and obviously a smear campaign. I've gone from Nintendo to Sega to Sony to Sega to Microsoft in which console of a generation tickles my fancy. I dunno right now if the 360 is the hands down winner of the next gen cuz like you said its a wait and see what the other guys do kind of thing. I'm not gonna say that its a must own either. I will say that I enjoyed every second of playing Project Gotham Racing 3 I spent today while listening to tracks off of my iPod. It was worth the money already.

For the record, I bought a Dreamcast the day it came out and I love it, I think it's the most underrated system of all time. Also, I was more than fair to the Revolution as an option for some, even over PS3. I even allowed the 360 an advantage where warranted. I said I was a Sony fanboy which means I'm obviously going to be a little biased. My robot voice comment was just to be a smart ass, take a joke, and it isn't like Xbox live is the height of class anyway. As far as the FPS thing goes, it's obvious that the majority of a consoles games aren't going to be one genre but the Xbox has proportionally more high profile FPS' than Sony because its main market is Americans who want to shoot stuff and drive fast, it's just fact. If 2 of the top five top selling 360 games aren't FPS' I'd be shocked. FPS' did kill my dad, so thanks for opening old wounds. Project Gotham Racing? It's good you like it, but I don't like racing games, and except for WWII themes, I don't like FPS' (I am aware 360 has an excellent WWII shooter and if it's only for 360, I will be jealous, but not 300 bucks worth of jealous). I meant the games are graphically unimpressive, they remind me of the small leap forward N64 made over the PS1. Madden doesn't look that good, Call of Duty doesn't look that good, nor does the new DOA. They look like enhanced Xbox games, and the play like games from the current generation.They might still be decent but they aren't the phenomenal leap one expects when they drop anywhere from a few hundred to a thousand bucks on a launch. (extra controllers, games, memory, etc) A lot of people will only be able to afford one thing, so I told them if they are unsure, to wait. Over the last couple of years, however, Xbox has built a rep off of appealing to hardcore Halo fans (quick! name another insanely popular Xbox exclusive franchise) and Sony has targeted the most games to the most people. Plus Bill Gates is a douche.

Sorry I haven't replied earlier, been glued to CoD2. I'm not a big FPS fan or realistic WWII fan, but that game is damn engrossing. I didn't read your whole post, but one thing I'd like to say is if you think Microsoft is any more of an evil company than Sony than you are crazy.

i got an xbox 360 hooked up to my new panasonic 61" rear lcd HDTV. and Madden 2006 is the best game i have ever played in my life. the graphics in HD are amazing. im really a sony ps2 guy but damn XBOX360 is the ****s i believe u need to see it HD to see it how it is intended to be seen if u got an HDTV pick up an xbox360 u wont be dissapointed

Ya, its definitely beautiful on HDTV. The 360 is also dynamic in its HD support (if your TV only supports 1080, it up converts 720 to 1080 if thats all the game supports, it probably ends up looking a lil less clear than 720 but still better than 480).

I've played Xbox 360 and it's not that impressive. I played CoD2 and it was fun, the graphics were improved but nothing jaw dropping. Even before Xbox 360 came out I was never really impressed with it. The PS3 will be better, you can quote me on that.

I have 360 now and I love it. I will wait for ps3 on 07. Yes, I tried to reserve it and gamestop told me its going to be 07.
