Australia officially bids for 2018 World Cup, has government support (AP)
Australia's bid for soccer's 2018 World Cup is official. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said Sunday that the government will back the bid and that Ben Buckley, chief executive officer of Football Federation Australia, will head the team. "Winning the rights to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup is a Herculean task, but overcoming tough odds is what Australian football does best," Rudd said.
