Xbox 360 Warning! (3 Red Lights)

I've just found out my 360 has the 3 red lights, the 2nd time it's happened to me now. BOTH times it's happened to me, the same thing has happened. The first time around, My Gears of War game started freezing one me. This time, it was my Nba 2k8.

In hopes to save a few of you, IF A GAME STARTS FREEZING, DON"T PLAY IT ANYMORE. My other games were working fine, and just maybe the 3 red lights has to do with a malfunction in a particular game...

Anyone on my friends list, probably won't be playing for a month or 2

Man, that sucks. I've replaced mine twice now too... the last time I had to pay for a year warrantee.

But, knock on wood, the second time it came back it came back a different box and it's doing better.

Probably just jinxed myself.

I'm putting it out there because maybe it will prevent it from happening to some people. Isn't there an extended warranty for 3 red lights? anyone know?

3 red rings are not triggered by any specific game. Its a general hardware failure that is usually related to the heat the graphics card produces. If a game starts to freeze and you stop playing it, the system will just Red ring on the next game. You cannot prevent it. Lets just hope you didnt mod your system. If you did, just xclamp it. **** i would probably just xclamp it either way to save myself the time of sending it to MS. you can find someone to fix it on craigslist for 40-60 bucks. You can also wrap it in a towel and leave it ON(with the rings flashing) for 15mins. The game will work but, the towel method is nothing more then a temp fix if you wanna play it some more before you send it in.

It's under warranty so I just sent it in to MS. I've done the towel method and it doesn't work that well imo. Sometimes I've gotten an hour or sometimes a minute lol. I just figured it could have sometrhing to do with the game because both times it happened I only had trouble with 1 specific game. Just a theory. What is xclamping anyway? Another way to repair it?

Yeah, it was for a year. Then mine went out right after that year.

for 3 red lights it's a 3 year warranty from date of purchase. its on service.xbox.com but I can't find it anymore

I KNOW this routine a bit too well. I'm on my 3rd xbox 360 myself. If Gears of War wasn't for the 360 I would of probably got rid of my 360 by now lol Plus Resident Evil 5 but it's for PS3 too...

I like the 360 more than any other system and xbox live is great but this faulty hardware is just too much. Mircosoft needs to get it together for real.....

man the second time it happened to me I just bought assassins creed and JUST started playing ran for about 2 seconds and boom froze and red lights came on. that was torture

yes. I believe it has something to do with the cheap "X" looking clamps that microsoft uses if you ever seen the inside of your xbox. I believe thats what the dude that fixed mine did. He opened it and took out those x clamps and did something with some screws. My xbox now has no "xclamps" in it.

I'm sure that violates the warranty though, right? If dude can't fix it, breaks down again, whatever, I can't get a new one from microsoft.
