RaiderDee has sound advice. I usually try to tighted up the distance on applying shadows, and duplicate and gaussian blur a burn layer above the layer that is casting the shadow. You need a lil depth on the top right, you are correct. Tweak around with gradients layer on top of gradient layers, mess with the layer settings; usually Multiply or Screen is solid.
