But untill then, I would add a black background layer and place it underneath or behind the "Bridge" layer. Then I would try to resize the Bridge background to make it more rectangular (less square) and try to retain enough of the main characteristics of the Bay Bridge then lower the opacity to approx 65%(or to your likings) and then set the blending properties to "screen", "soft light" or Color dodge, etc. Try differnent blending types untill you get more of a faint shadow or 'hint' of a bridge in the background so that the players you place on top of it stand out more. In a sig like the one you're making, it looks better to make your players the main focus of the design. The once you have the various layers of players added to your workspace, try playing with various filters and blending percentages to tweek the out a bit. A trick I like to use is taking a layer (in this case, Eric Chavez) and duplicating it. Then take that second or duplicated layer and click Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur > and then set blur to about 4.2 click OK. Then set the blending properties to Overlay. It gives the layer or image some depth. You could also add a drop shadow. But by all means, experiment and enjoy. You're off to a good start!
