Um actually the term Steeler Nation goes back to the 1970s.

Also, for the record, Steelers fan base goes as international as Radiers (LA or Oak take your pic) as well as Dallas, Green Bay, San Fran and (choke) believe it or not the Browns fan base is even amazing.

I was in Denver for the Steeler/Bronco game and um, we owned the stadium, losing season or not we turn out in force.

Didnt notice all the black n gold in the stands in SF?

Thought it was a worker union slogan at the time for steelworkers? And it carried over to the team named for such...? Never recall seeing the term until the late 90s... as for the steelers use of term it may have started as a comeback to "America's Team" whom they owned for the Super 70s. Really cannot recall hearing it used for such despite being around enormous numbers of Pennsylvanians via the air base here...

I've been watching football for over 30 years and never heard the Steeler fan base called the Steeler Nation. It baflles me, and the fans stated they got the name from a commentator mentioning that the fans were like a nation in a NFL Film Classic of the Great Teams of the 70's, then claimed we copied it. Well, I really don't think that Raiders were watching the 70's clips of the Squeelers! Also, it wasn't a name that the fan base called themselves back then either, SO, if a commentator mentions it - fans don't follow it - nobody hears about it - then the RaiderNation rises - the Squeelers start Squeeling about how they had the name first?

    I don't see it. . .
