I went to training camp the last 2 days and here are my observations from chargers.com

http://forums.chargers.com/showthread.php?t=31820

Conditions: Slick turf and Ball Consistent mild rain

Highlights: Antonio Cromartie picked leaped about 3 feet off the ground and intercepted a pass returning it to the end zone on a corner route. Marlon Mcree also intercepted a pass that went through Manumaleuna's hand returning it about 15 yards.

I AM CONVINCED!! Phillip Rivers is THE MAN. His passes were crisp on target leading the receiver and I only saw 1 ball that MAY have been thrown poorly or could have been a bad route run by Lorenzo Neal. Otherwise he was INT free and Squeezed several balls NICELY into the receivers chest between defenders with ALOT of zip on the ball. It was very Dan Marino like.
Mike Scifres CONSISTENTLY boomed the ball over 52 yards with one 61 yarder standing 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Darren Sproles didn't even bobble a punt in the rough conditions. Although several others did drop and bobble the Punt returns. Sproles also lined up in the slot and caught a quick slant that went to the house. AND most importantly displayed moves that would have gotten him TD's last year in the return game had he chose to juke instead of trying to plow through.

From what I saw this is a SUPER BOWL caliber team. Rivers looked AWESOME! I mean no happy feet picture perfect passes and only missed onece. Lorenzo Neal dropped several passes and didn't look very good or comfortable receiving. LT also caught several passes and zipped down the sideline 20 to 30 yards before even being touched. Jammer covering McCardell knocked the ball down WHILE LOOKING AT IT on a Post pattern. Mccardell had his hands in the right position but Jammer was on him like white on Rice and easily knocked it away.

Ya it would have taken alot to convince me on Rivers.... and I SAW ALOT! Put it like this.... I didn't think about brees once... in fact... Rivers blows Brees out the water as far as getting the ball out quickly and EVEN accuracy. Obviously arm strength as well but I haven't seen a qb lead a receiver so well and so consistently as a charger in TC ever. I never saw fouts though so keep that in mind. But for all those that were concerned about Rivers. Trust me come regular season there will be no concerns.

Oh and during the receiver drills a backup receiver who will likely be cut caught the ball but only got one foot in and TRIED to walk back to the line like it was ok. But I yelled out were trying to win a Championship you gotta focus. ANd Kassim Osgood yelled back THATS RIGHT! Oh and Roman Oben was talking alot to the fans in the corner while walking and doing high knees with the cord and the belt around his waist for tension. I asked him how the foot was and he said it's great.

Wilhelm I don't know I was on the offensive side so i didnt get a good look. VJ looked great. He caught the ball with his hands... which are massive and make the football look like a baseball. He did semi bobble a pass on an out pattern that if he was hit hard may have been jarred loose. He let that one get too close to his body. Camarillo caught a deep bomb down the sideline that bounced in the air first and came down in his hands i forget who was covering.

this aint the smack forum man. I just posted some stuff that you guys may want to know about your opponent. I WAS NOT sold on Rivers and WAS a big Brees should have been kept man so thats why it is slanted in this fashion. There was a full rush with Meriman and foley coming at the qb full speed in pads and Rivers did great.

i'm not talking smack, im just saying, you really think after what brees did the past two years, put his heart and soul into that team, carried that team, that rivers after two training camps makes you forget about him.

dude that is a HOMER reply if i ever seen one, sorry but it is true.

and about the mask, i was serious, no smack, if i was a charger fan i would wear a mask all the time, especially when i take pictures.

With the raiders recent history I wouldn't be wearing a mask i'd be wearing a bag over my head. Anyways you WILL find out what I am talking about come week 1. I'm a homer no doubt about it but I am no rookie when it comes to judging QB's.

kool so on that note The raiders are gonna get lit up by RIVERS I GURANTEE it. YOUR offense has been getting pushed around by YOUR defense from ALL raider camp reports... what do you think the Chargers defense will do?? Yes the Chargers defense AND secondary this year is better than the raider BY FAR. Marlon McCree is an All pro Caliber safety from the panthers with 5 INTS in the playoffs last year and Jammer had 20 passes defended depending on what site you go to 17-21 is what u will get. Drayton florence is 100 pct healthy from injury last year and has been dominating in mini and training camps. There is no reason not to believe the Chargers will dominate on both sides of the ball and have a top 3 offense AND defense.

So does that mean when Rivers sucks then you will stop being such a homer? QB evaluator. I bet if I looked I could find a post somewhere by you touting the greatness of Ryan Leaf too..

I bet you couldn't. For leaf it was more this guy has a GREAT arm... one of the best of all time. Really he did. It was more about development for him. Obviously he didn't develop mentally was inaccurate and not ready for the NFL. I saw him against the 49ers one year that we got whooped by them and Leaf had single coverage in a cover 1 on one side with triple coverage on the other with 2 te's 2 wr's. Guess where he threw and what happened... Pictoralis major straight to the db's chest returned to the house. His decision making was terrible. Now Rivers still has to prove his decision making id great but that's not what was being evaluated by me on these days.
