NAPA -- Raiders wide receiver Jerry Porter was knocked unconcious today while running a crossing route during the team's morning practice. Porter apparently collided with several of the team's linebackers while attempting to catch a pass from second year quarterback Andrew Walter.
"What I saw didn't look normal," said Joel Huardo, a guest assistant coach. "It looked like half the defense was trying to take his (Porter) head off. Man, he was out cold." Raider's defensive back coach Willie Brown had a different account. "I just saw guys making a play on the ball. We have a fast defense and they hustle. It was a good clean hit." While nobody claimed to know exactly who hit Porter, almost every Raider at practice was willing to take credit. "Oh my. I hope he heals up fast this time so we can go at him tomorrow," said rookie safety Michael Huff. "Feels good to give someone the truth." Porter has made headlines this week, demanding a trade and stating publicly that head coach Art Shell threatened him verbally during an off-season meeting. Associated Press |
