San Diego Chargers. Idiots.

I'm not complaining since the Raiders will smack down Rivers and company on Monday Night Football, but doesn't it seem stupid for San Diego to let go of a winning QB like Drew Brees?

It was a fatal move by the dolts.

Actually, it was an upgrade. Brees, although a good QB, was never great. He never led big comebacks when the Chargers were down. Although he was efficient, by no means did he make other players around him great. It was the opposite, Gates, LT and co. made Brees look good. Brees is a typical "system" QB.

Rivers has much more upside than Brees, and once established, will make the great players he has even better.

We saw the best out of Drew, and it was good, but Rivers will start lighting it up when given the chance.

I'll give you the fact that the chargers have a since of direction by saying that Phillip Rivers is your starting QB and their behind him 100%.

Yes, as fans we are standing behind the decision 100%. I liked Drew, even met him in person and was a great guy.

What it came down to was either pay a hobbling QB with a sever shoulder injury what NO paid him, and trade Rivers, or keep the money and start the QB that the franchise already designated as their future.

Sure, it's a risk, but so is giving 60 million dollars over 6 years to a guy who can't even toss a football 20 yards right now. Either way, it's a wash.

I'm sure you guys are behind the acquisition of Brooks, and he has the ability and talent to be a good one, as does Walter.

I think with weapons like Gates, McCardell, Parker, Jackson, and whoever else we get either by FA or draft, Rivers is gonna have the help to succeed.

With what D? As for letting DB walk, it was either pay a guy with a bum shoulder, or letting the guy you drafted get his shot after paying him $15 mill for holding a clipboard.

As much as I hate the dolts I will have to agree that it was a good decision as far as preparing your future QB and getting him started on his development , but as far as going to the playoffs any team in this situation has to think realistic and be ready to go through some growing pains with your new qb. The only way it was a bad move was for Shotties chances of still coaching there but thats only rumor that maybe some of the charger fans can clear up for me. Did AJ give Marty the ultimatum that he had to make the playoffs or he was gone this coming season?

Brees was the leader of that offense. If LT goes down this year, then the Chargers are in a world of HURT...

Thumbs up aj

I never heard of an ultimatum. Spanos sat them both down for a talk when the brees issue was going on. Now that brees is gone, the mood now is even better.

I think that after a few games with Rivers under center the Dolts will realize how good Brees really is. I'm glad he's gone to New Orleans because Brees was getting way too used to beating us.

You're right, Brees was good. But the system made him good along with having Gates, LT and the receivers.

Not to rain on your parade, but alot of teams have been good against the Raiders defense the past few years. How many pro-bowlers did the Raiders send from the defensive side? I can name 2 really quality starters you have in Burgess and Morrison. And Sapp? C'mon....guys old.

I don't know what you have added this offseason, but if you upgraded personnel, your chances are better to perform.

Fact is, even with the inexperience, Rivers could take the same approach as the Steelers did with Roethlisburger. Chargers have the running game to do just that. At the very beginning, I see maybe a slight dropoff from Brees, but he'll catch up and eventually surpass him. You guys lucked out because you're getting him in his first ever start.

It'll be a good game.

As much as I hate to give a Raider fan props....u are partly right. The Chargers offense is explosive. Unfortunately we have one of the more conservative coaches. He'll always play not to lose ---> see the 05 playoff loss to the Jets.

While Brees was a gutsy game manager, and a QB naturally leads as they have the rock in their hands every play - the Bolts ARE LTs team - After Seau, LT had become the unquestioned heart and soul of the team. While Brees was an offensive game manager and solid guy - LT is the Inspirational Soul of the team. Who gets the National Advertising ? ? ? As one of the top RBs, we would be deadmeat if he goes down this year. He is on a HOF trajectory, but the last two campaigns have seen injuries catch him (even though he has owned you !) -

Rivers has the luxury of several Pro-bowlers to take the heat off of a developing QB - if we get some OL Beef in the draft or via another route by the Executive-of-the-year who had two incredible, stellar drafts - We will continue to be one of the youngest, most promising teams in the game - Not Smack - Just FACTS !

Where are the Banazak, Howie, Bo, Lester, Marcus, Plunket and Stabler pros of today ? - All your booty of the Gruden idiocy and high picks sure haven’t shown up for you guys. While I like the promise of Brooks to Moss/Porter - I’ll believe it when we see an O line and a Defense show up.
