Judging by the guy in their header bar they're obviously trying to appeal across all social divides

I know its a cliche but yes I have gay friends myself. the joke wasn't at the homosexual community per se but more at the fact that a testosterone fuelled sport (how many openly gay football players do you know) actually appears to be targetting the gay stereotype. Or perhaps this is normal attire for people in Denver, I don't know but it certainly appears gay to me.
