The ratings were dying with Rush, he knew it, so he tried to go over the top and it backfired. Stick to make people feel that a putdown on others make them more empowered. Only a shred of our constitution is left. My nephew says his guard units are not only doing ground soldier countersniping but also having to do their own ****ing laundry details, many units are undersupplied for basic services that should come with wearing a uniform. Just got a letter back today that my cous his age sent with all of his friends who are high school seniors pics in it and their wishes for his well being. Was never opened by him, was dated and sent back.
Rush is a symptom of the problem not the cause of it. He is on the edge of a backlash that is a groundswell and is about to take back a lot of what was stolen from the generations before and is being put on the future of our youth right now.
The only thing bigger than Rush's head is the deficit. The ax was on its way down with his football talk. We are tired of divisive bull****ters , stay on the redneck radio circuit where your kind of talk is appreciated.

Yes this fan for one would have loved to see Irvin beat him down. When Tom Jackson's words (he was Raider colors that day for a business suit by the way when this went down) show him to be the bigger man then it is time to step down Rush.

Since he was about to get the ax, he pulls a last stunt to become a 'victim' and rally listeners to his hot air show. Rush needs a Clinton in office who is doing a great job but acts bad to have a target. He doesnt have the balls to ask tough questions of these current inept leaders so he wandered his BS into the sports arena.
When TJ beats you down on the intellectual level you are really challenged. Lots of folks already removing Rush is Right stickers on their cars as well.Say one thing and do another stratagey doesnt work when you have a mic 24-7 and no audience that is all supporters and you lose the ability to cut people off midsentence. It was a matter of time Rushkie, too bad McCarthy was not around you could blame the step-down on communists.
Maybe they will let guy who hosts the 'OReally?factor' take over. Talk behind scenes is that the bigot target market is still needing booth representation...

actually the ratings on ESPN Countdown was up 10 shares (however they rate **** on that scale for tv) with Rush, and this last episode was the highest rated ever, or for the season, one of the two.......

NFL rating overall were record level across the board the first week, and their rating within their rating (the 30 min before games their panel did not have Rush speak ) there was a considerable upswing.
Last year for higher rated games their rating went up as well, there was always a very rigid correaltion between primetime viewing and game time viewing. Those numbers were not nearly as coincided this time around either. If Rush were all of those ratings he would be kept just for that.
He stepped down before he was fired, a PC save-face.Nixon of the airwaves! The media now will give his show air time after the format grew stale. He asked so many tough questions of our leadership for so long, why has he stopped?
Rush pops so many pills they called him Elvis offset...

I think it's possible that Rush new this drug thing was about to hit the mainstream media and he'd rather go out being a radical thinker than a pill taker.

If this is what he wanted, I'd have to say he got it. No one is talking much about the drug thing, but they're still talking about the McNabb thing.

In the long run, that's what his brief stint at ESPN will be remembered for.

Yes, and every time McNabb has a down game this comes up as well. Had he stuck to the qb rating issue as my editor added, it could go over as the right take.
From what we know of Mcnabb he is much better than given credit for as a person.Rush likes controversy, and has now added victim's role to his status.Rex your take is good on it, Rush took a pragmatic exit.
Democrats have bashed all over this when I viewed C-Span's first party presentation of each candidate (notably they omitted Sharpton's appearance). Can still work the same spin on the other side in that regard.
The underlying problem of this (media diversity limitations) is a bad side effect . Rush should still have a voice, nobody denies that right, but when it comes to paying to hear it we do not care for some of those opinions and his smaller target market can pay to hear such.
In my first draft, the solution could perhaps be for McNabb and his Mother to visit Rush and share good soup and good times as a way to resolve this constructively. This would be a way to bring new fans to the sport and perhaps make Rush change his perspectives and become more inclusive. DonnyMac's feelings count too and he has said what he feels on the issue so we'll leave it at that.
