Seems this whole thread is going no where. Both teams sucked last year, how bout we see what happens this year?
The back and forth is getting boring already, Let it go!

Hey Mike, I'll leave it at this; if everything you're saying is true, how did Gruden ever win here? I've followed this team for over 30 years. I've met Ron Wolf. I've met Bruce Allen and Mike Lombardi. I might actually know more about the way this organization works than you do.
And I promise to never come over to your board and pass myself off as a 49er expert... |

I'm happy about you supporting your team. I've met some of them myself, including Allen. Golfed with Jim Plunkett, Rice, Montana, Clark, and many more. Afterwards only thing I got out of it was who's a class guy "Plunkett, Montana" and who's the biggest ass on the planet. You guessed it..RICE. that said, even after spending umpteen hours down at Stanford Golf Course in Pro-Am's and Charity tournaments, I still didn't come away knowing more about the organization than when I first teed off. Guess I must have done something wrong. Oh..and as far as you promising you won't come across as a Niner expert? Baby steps..learn about the Raiders first..then move over to the Niners. That's why I'm here..it is my way

But one example of what I'm talking about: my friend is writing a book about the AFL and arranged a pretty long interview with Ron Wolf and I got to sit in. There were a lot of pointed questions about the Raiders' way of doing things. Wolf told us that he himself championed the drafting of Ken Stabler (he's still pretty proud of that one!) and Davis listened. Tom Flores was a major driving force behind the drafting of Marcus Allen. Again, Davis has to sign off on this stuff but he will listen to other points of view and act on it if you're strong enough to convince him. Another example would be Gruden convincing Al to draft Tui. Getting back to Collins (for the last time I promise), Norv wanted him. And to be fair it doesn't take much to sell Davis on a strapping 6'5' QB who can chuck it 70 yards. It wouldn't be the first time Norv tried and failed to turn a big strong armed QB into Aikman: he tried it with Shuler in Washington. And I'm not the biggest Collins fan but Jim Fassel must have channeled the ghost of Vince Lombardi to get to the Super Bowl with him, right? I still contend that it was a coaching failure to not get more out of this offense, even with Collins' weaknesses... |

Sounds like a hell of an interview you got to attend. Had to be a rush. Don't get me wrong. I do know that coaches do, and should champion for certain players that become available. No doubt, at any given time that a player of any quality becomes available there's numerous coaches from any number of teams hoping to get them, which obviously helps them be a "better coach" (I.E. you helped me win, I must be good, lol ) And, of course, Al (whatever owner) ok's or nay's it. And, as you state, Al loves the strong arm qb (Dan Pastorini: "I threw the ball up to the 5th floor balcony". "Yeah..but you were aiming for the 4th floor" ) And I agree..Norv should have gotten more out of the team. Seems a LOT of coaches underproduced this year, didn't they? On paper, seems a lot of teams had the horses, but didn't get it done. Most of those coaches, of course, are canned.
