The only ones screwed by the county of Alameda and the city of Oakland were the people that pay taxes there. The local governments opened up their coffers to Al Davis to lure the Raiders back. Basically, the taxpayers took on all of the risk in this deal. The taxpayers funded the stadium expansion, the Raiders got a sweetheart lease that included the revenue from the luxury boxes, as well as a payment of $5.6 million/year from the taxpayers.

PSLs were supposed to be a way of shifting the cost from the taxpayers to the people who actually use the stadium. Sales of PSLs have fallen way short, and the taxpayers are left holding the bag for another $65 million. In addition, Al Davis sued the taxpayers for $1.1 billion (were awarded 34 million) for the stadium not being sold out.

It's clear that the city, county, and Al Davis all grossly overestimated the fan base in Oakland. Since the Raiders returned to Oakland, the number of games blacked out to the local TV market is second only to the Arizona Cardinals. Raider fans are fond of calling the Patriots fans "bandwagoners". But the fact is, the Patriots have sold out every game (pre, regular, and post season) for 12 straight years. If the Raider fans bought tickets like the fans in every other NFL city, their current financial mess would have been avoided.

The bigger question is why is Al Davis getting anything from the taxpayers in the first place? The team that he bought for $180,000 is currently worth $676 million. This is a business with a guaranteed revenue stream (network deals, etc) and a salary cap. It is virtually impossible for an NFL owner avoid making a ****load of $$$.

Al Davis, or any other NFL owner, never needed any public subsidy. He could have...and should have...built the stadium himself, and kept his hands out of the taxpayers pockets. Bob Kraft, for example, privatly financed the construction of Gillette Stadium. He levereged his equity in the team to borrow the $$$. However, the revenues that the new stadium generates are more than enough to offset his costs. As a result, his team is one of 4 professional sports franchises in the world (along with the Redskins, Cowboys, and Manchester United) to be valued at over $1 billion.

There is absolutely no reason (other than the fact that local government officials are willing to hand him hundreds of millions of taxpayers dollars) thAt Al Davis couldn't have done the same thing. The current debt/value ratio for the Raiders is 8%...only the Packers are lower. By contrast, the Patriots debt/value ratio is 29%. The truth is, Al Davis does not want to touch the equity in the franchise. He would rather hit up the taxpayers, as well as sue anybody he can think of.

While the Oakland and Alameda county governments may have applied the lube to your rectum, it is dear old Uncle Al that has been ****ing the fans and taxpayers up the ass for decades.
****, I got my tickets son... Oh, all that **** you typed is bull. It's not Al, but the city of Oakland and the county of Alameda. They promised him the world in order to bring him back and do the necessary marketing to ensure sufficient ticket sales. Get off Al's nutz....

I heard it is still debatable as to if this game will be shown or not...

The Raidturds are trying to extend the 72 hour rule.

Quote:
Well its being reported by the San Francisco Chronicle that it will be a blackout in the Bay area for this Sunday Night game because they still have "several thousand" tickets available. This is typical of the " Nation" even the year after they went to the Super Bowl their home opener was blacked out because the " Nation" can't even fill their crappy stadium. Some fans they have out there in Oakland

This is just one part of the article:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/artic...SPGKFENKJM1.DTL

No sellout yet: As of midday Wednesday, a spokesman said "several thousand" tickets remained on sale for Sunday's game. The team is trying to push the unsold seats, said to be mostly lower-level, through marketing campaigns in print, television and radio.

The NFL's blackout deadline for the Sunday night kickoff is 5:30 p.m. today, although the indicated they probably will ask for an extension.

Im saying if you cant fill the stadium, as is... take out seats and maybe put more space in between seats so that there are less seats to fill, so that you wont be blacked out.

Amazing... an opposing fan comes in here being civil, and you act like it is smack. Piss on you, you deserve the blackouts... enjoy Raider Radio.
Look pal, your thread was moved and not by me. I am not a mod. So, after scrutinizing it for whatever was smack about it I concluded that you were trying to say that Raider fans are fat. Which is an incredible lame attempt at smack. The mods don't move threads for no reason. So I did what any self repecting Raider fan would do and spewed some facts for you to simmer over. AND YOU DID. The sarcasm drips thick from some of your fans' threads. And no, piss on you. 'Nuff said.
