Collins? COLLINS??? Are you sure?

I mean, is it just me, or are you guys waffling on this guy? Seems some fans think he's going to be good to great. Others are still po'ed from last year's performance.

Honestly, he reminds me a lot of Jeff Garcia, except Collins has a stronger arm. Both get skittish under pressure. Both are HORRIBLE going through their reads. Both miss wide open receivers, sometimes BADLY. Both, once rattled, fold like a tent, and both are qb's that you don't really know who's going to show up, which, when Garcia was around, was maddening.

One game he would be hot, great touch, seemed very in control. Then next game he would come out, miss wide open receivers, way over their head, and we knew it was going to be a long day.

Last year seems like Collins was like that as well. Up and down on performance. Up and down on qb ratings.

You have the wide receivers now, with Porter and Moss. Question is, will Collins accuracy improve because you have better receivers? I think Collins was about the 40th rated qb last year, tied for the lead in picks.

I don't know you guys/gals. Some of you are gung ho on Collins, all smack aside, I'm not.

Collins did great in his last 8 games it took him time to settle into the offense but once he did he was outstanding. He made big plays despite having NO running game.

Comparing a QB like Kerry Collins to Jeff Garcia isn't a good comparison. Collins is one of the best deep passers in the game and throws the ball QUICK. Garcia is like a Rich Gannon he runs around and hangs on to the ball for a long time and likes to throw short passes. I don't know how you could compare the two.

While Collins did do better the second half, can hardly state he did great. His last game was horrendous. Rating of 17. Three interceptions, fumbled it away. 14th game was another less than well played game.
Stats were better second half totals over first half..that is true.
I compare him to Garcia because with the exception of a stronger arm, they have the same weaknesses..turning ball over, not going through reads, making bad decisions, and relying on dumping off ball.

Yeah, I agree he was a little hit and miss but every team we played knew we were going to pass 80% of the time and that does change things. This year if Collins does have bad games we'll be able to rely on the running game and even out the play calling some.

Like, I say who out there can do better? When i say that I mean of the free agents that can be signed and any other QB that is available.

Collins is very capable, doesn't always have the greatest of games but he can still play better then most coming into the league or most out there. Slim pickings until the next gen takes over.

Yeah, the argument, by many was that "collins was always playing catch up, and they knew he was going to throw" My reply was "He's playing catch up because your behind" Vicious cycle.

Good pickup on Jordan. With Fargas and Crockett backing up, yes, running game should improve immensely.

I agree. Not saying you had lots of choices. Can't say Tui didn't deserve a shot though. Many state we should have taken Edwards hoping Rattay is not injury prone, but you have to grab key players when they're presented, and no position is more key than qb.

Of course, he didn't play that well, hmmmm ;)

Collins is our QB until further notice.. I will stand behind him until proven otherwise. Jeff Garcia?

Not to worry. If Collins chokes, we'll just fire up Walter. Luckily, they’re of similar size and stature so it’s a great learning environment for him. My gut feeling is that Walter will have better play reading instincts and already seems a bit cooler. He seems like he’s got the poise and the knack for shedding would be tacklers of a Tom Brady, for example.

I disagree. I'm a season ticket holder with the Niners. Garcia was our qb. He SUCKED. But, according to you, I should have applauded his crappy play? Should have just accepted his poor decisions?

Oh, I see..blindly follow, regardless.

Yeah. I disagree. for that matter, why, oh why do I KNOW that if Collins starts out this year like he did LAST YEAR that YOU TWO will be on that "We want ________ (Insert name) playing"?

Doesn't make you a "FAN' to just accept something because it's there, far from it. You should not only expect, but demand the best. Settling for mediocrity..makes you..well...mediocre

Well, while I was impressed by his brief stint, kind of early to lay all those accolades on his narrow shoulders, at least not yet.

You've already written off Tui?

Common football knowledge may suggest that Walter fits our system better than Tui.

The Ram fans must have beat the brain cells right out of your noggin.

Common football knowledge indicates if you are relying on Walters because of his brief appearance, you are in a world of hurt..unless, of course, you design those plays all the time. Hell of a highlight reel.

A comedian to boot? Don't quit your day job.

Oh..uh..which Ram fans would those be? I have "roots" in many ram sites, much to their chagrin. (besides, they love me, they just hate admitting it)
