I don't know if it's a mentality thing, a CB thing, or a 1-in-a-million athlete thing, but Charles may be one of those dudes who just does it his way and we don't understand.
But you certainly have a point ... hopefully he's still hanging with guys like Eric Allen and keeps on learning and growing. Whatever he is doing sems to be working OK so far - but no, we still haven't seen all of his potential. God help the AFC West when we do. |

We will see if he has learned from Allen, RWood etc when he looses that step. If he drops off the face of the map, the he didn't. If he still covers great its because he is now studying opponents. This is the gamble we take in the long run IMO. Whether he continues to be great after that step is gone is up to him.
In my ideal world CWood will start studying. Then down the road when he can't play corner anymore, the way he hits and tackles, he could shift over and be one hell of a safety. |

I'm in agreement here. C-wood is good but he will not be a great.
I think it was Ronnie Lott who said he'd love to coach C.Woodson, said if he changed his mind set he'd be one of the best to ever play the game. He has size and speed, he'd be a killer as saftey but we need him at corner more. If he had the attitude of Ray Lewis, Ronnie Lott or even R. Gannon, He would be able to write his own paycheck. Not bashing Woodson, I'll take what I can get it's just a shame when you know he could do so much better. |

Gotta love that quote from Brayton. It drips of leadership....

Longevity at this position in the league means you study tape. You know your opponent. You know their tendencies. I wish both Charles and hopefully PBuch learn this at some time. With all the veterans on the team, you would think this would become evident. Instead of resigning to, "if I get beat, I get beat."
I would hate to hear that PBuch adopts this mentality, if he hasn't already. Sort of an insult to the young guys and the hardworking rookies trying to make the team as it downplays how hard Brayton is working, doesn't it?

I agree with you 100%.. I would take blue collar players like Tyler Bryaton over a guy who relies on talent alone in Charles Woodson. Imo the guy still doesn't put in the time and effort. |

Brayton is going to be the leader of our defense for years to come. The guy leads by example. I agree the CWood could be a hell of a safety in few years but right now we need him to be a hell of cornerback. He has probably been getting by his whole career on just talent and it has gotten him pretty far. He probably won't change because he has been doing it his whole life this way, just showing up and playing.

... remember how well he has done in the past playing through pain and not practicing yet performing well on Sunday ... sort of feeds into that 'raw ability' thing.

BASH BASH BASH.
You hate right now but y'all will be suckin' his chocolate salty balls when he saves the Raiders' asses in the tight games. "But Joker, no, I think he's a really good corner, but..." Shut up. Just shut up. Would Tyler Brayton have spoken up against the Coach when no one else would have? Nope. Would Tyler Brayton be out there 2 weeks after a broken leg? Nope. Leadership comes in different forms. Charles is a leader. PLEASE stop hating on your OWN ****ing cornerback. SUPPORT him because he WANTS to be a Raider and WILL be a Raider this year. He's getting himself in shape, and he even goes to the meetings when he doesn't have to, cuz there is no contract. Word is the Postons are closer to signing Wood than Julian Peterson, so stop the "studying film, role model" bull**** and let Charles be himself. I guarandamntee you'll be thanking him later and I know in the back of your minds you know it's true. Especially when you see #24 out there locked on the other team's best receiver when Sapp, Washington, and Bros. are rushing the QB. Stop focusing on the trees---Brayton's corn-fed ass---and start focusing on how well this team will play this year TOGETHER because of the different styles of leadership. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go break some stuff
