I would think so. Against the 3-4 you don't have that much room to scramble, and Phillip Buchanon should be able match up against Finnerian/White/Jenkins

well phil played less than avg ly and was embarrasing on D....Cwood might not play on the team....Rod might not ba able to play so that would bring in Ray who has never played the position. Our current Lb's are TERRIBLE in coverage (but thats not exactly vicks strength)...so If we can apply pressure and force him to the sidlines and cover his cutbacks we will own him....LOL...I just put my balls on both sides of the fence...we have PLENTY of questions on D (i know most have already named them steel curtain 2) but thats just not the case...our LB is suspect.....but can be dominate if the d coordinator calls the correct alignment on the correct play.....thats how it always is!!!!

C-Wood will play. He's not dumb enough to pass up $9 million. According to Napo, Rod will be ready for training camp.

And our LBs won't need to cover when Vick has a career completion rate of 52.5%

just have sapp chase him down,sapp gots his number baby!!!!!!!!!!!! have brayton chase his ass down too. just dont leave any gaps in middle open or we screwed.

Sapp's Bucs loss their latest game vs. the Falcons and he was shut out of the game by first time starter Martin Bibla.

I don't know if the Raiders have the speed, in the LBs and on the line, but they do have the secondary (when healthy) to cover our WRs. That could allow for them to blitz often and spy but playing the Falcons w/ Vick is......lets just say different. That's a game your offense will more than likely have to win, not your defense.

Dan Reeves offense was never a QB friendly offense. I fully admit that Vick is not even an "average" passer he's far below the curve. Reeves offense and our lack of quality WRs had just as much influence on that % however.

look I hear ya...but SAPP aint chasing VICK.....thats just crazy!!....Vick is quite possibly the fastes and better yet quickest Qb or Rb in the leafue...Sapp if he chases will be toast,,,,,,,NOW if Sapp can blind side him...Im all for that!!!

Harris and Travian Smith are plenty fast. They both run in the 4.4s

Dunno about the rest though. I think 4 LBs effectively makes up for the lack of speed of the other lbs.

But you're right about the DL. They're all slow as hell.

those r the only 3 players i can think of to chase vick down,brayton,woodson,buchannon.blitz buchannon,not ray,put aso in coverage,smith,nap,sam willimas,and rudd chase him down

I have alot of respect for Mike Vick. He's amazing to watch. Seems like you have to plan for him alone, aside from the rest of the offense. I have alot of faith in Ryan's abilities to prepare for him though. Keep him off balance, plenty of pressure and make sure you fill the gaps, if you give him a lane to run, he's gone. I think you'll see blitzes from all angles coming at him. As long as CWood and PBuch do their jobs and play the kind of coverage they are capable of, we should be able to limit their scoring. It's gonna be a helluva game though and I can't wait for it.

I like Vick but i dont think that their o line has what it takes to stand up to our defensive front. thay have to get duckett going in order to even think about opening up a passing game. That wont happen. Vick can scramble around all he wants. unless they find some balance in their offense it will be a long season for him period. But I do think that the west coast offense will help him with his completion% but he is far from accurate. so we will just have to wait and see.

Nice question...

I think the fact we have such a young, fast LB corps in a solid 3-4 defense (ie. tough against the run) makes me think we'll be able to cope with him scrambling...But if he's firing guns from the backfield at Buchanon- I think we have a problem!!! I'm confident we'll stop their run, that Woodson will be able to cover Price but i'm not happy with 'Roast me!' Buchanon covering either Dez White, rookie Michael Jenkins or even Finneran, in his current form! Maybe Nnamdi Asomugha can stand up and become the consistent shutdown corner we need partnering Charles at the CB spots...

I'm still confident though!

Vicks constant scrambling, electing to run instead of pass, is going to contribute to a shorter career for him. In my opinion Vick is a one-dimensional QB. He's just not that good of a passer. He's already been hurt a good part of last season. Shades of things to come. He's fun to watch, but a QB who relies too much on his running skills usually doesn't take his team too far in the playoffs. Like the previous posts, the 3-4 scheme would be the way to go to stop vick. The real question is how are the Falcons going to stop the Raiders. Gannon looks better than healthy. If he stays with the team he'll have Porter, Rice, Gabriel, Jolley, Teyo to throw to behind a mamoth and quick offensive line. I think our running backs will have a good season behind this line. Turner should incorporate more play action passing plays to the offense which will give Gannon more than enough time to find an open target. By the time we play Atlanta, both the offense and defense will have had plenty of time to gel together.
Atlanta should have played us last year.
