Yes, I know he didn't retire then come back. It's a little different scenario. BUT Al Davis didn't want him to come back, even though he said he wanted to. So what did he do? Follow Gruden where he knew he would know the coaching staff. I don't blame him. Otherwise he would have been forced into retirement also IMO. Who really knows. The difference is the media, too. Just my $.02. Take it how you want it.
