In the end...it was fun while it lasted and helped us waste a week or so during the offseason.

I had fun even if I'm still a b*tch LOL! Wanted to apologize for being a bit rude with that comment earlier yesterday... or the day before... I don't even remember lol Anyway, hope all is cool with all of us now that this little fiasco is over hehe Like one of your fans said somewhere here Its like ending up with a best friend after a fight behind the schoolyard or something like that LOL No matter what, we will always "hate" the other teams in the NFL no matter what team you like. So here's to the NFL!

I think the buffalo bills mascot should get about 4 million votes to eat more buffalo wings. he never would have gotten past either Oakland or jacksonville.
If he signs autographs he could get a hand cramp. If he eats too many buffalo wings then he could have a coronary (thus not being able to advance to the next round) Just my 2 cents. edit, i dont think the votes are logging.... nevermind edit 2, none of the poles are giving results |

well now that it's officially over, I'll give a little recap from the upside perspective of someone from down under.
g'day all, my name is BBBD and I'm a Raiderholic. In fact I'm the ONLY Raiderholic in our little band of Aussie battlers. I initially cast my 1 vote (complete with cookie) and thought nothing of it, rarely checking the initial thread. But one day I did check the thread, and it was the post by CunninghamJ on pg 15 where he said "The reason your 30 votes didn't register is because thats .001 percent of the total vote. It's going to take alot of voting at this point to make a dent on either side." that got me motivated. There's a little social group, #hungover, that I belong to. We are a small group of people maybe 10-15 regulars who hangout in a IRC channel, go out drinking, movies, lanning, BBQ's, parties, etc. We also were a part of (but not the creator of) a script to help push South Australian icons to the top of a vote held for Monopoly the Australian edition. So I went in Channel, and asked the guys for a little help. 1 of our guys found a way to send votes direct to a server via a command line, at the same time, another (KangarooArmy) found the exact information that was sent to the server to indicate who you voted for. We put the two bits of information together, and made a file that would send the command of 1 vote at a time as fast as the server would accept it. On top of that, you could run multiples (20-80) of these files from 1 machine without too much effort, so with initially only 3 people in the matter of 1.5 hours had put in enough votes to turn the voting back to 70% raiders. That's when I put the post of "ummm let's just say there are a lot or Raider fans in Australia, we are now in the lead.", and thought that should be the end of it. The next morning I checked this thread again to find that the Jag's had been busy, and returned the lead their way, so this time I kept track of the vote total every 15 minutes from 10am Australian time. We could see the total votes were going up 8000 votes at a time, with the Jags continuing to eat into the Raiders percentage. So I asked the guys in channel to synchronize our voting, this time there was 4 of us, NosDan was now onboard, so it was decided at 12:31 Australian time, we would fire up, and within minutes we had stemmed the flow of Jag votes, and started the climb back to having the percentage going to the correct team We ran this for about 7.5 hours, and took the commanding lead that the Jags never got back. The following morning, when we (because everyone in channel was interested now) checked the vote page, I saw we still had the lead, but the jags voting had managed to peg it back to about 54% to the good guys. So we opened up our program again, and this time told everyone in channel (about 8-10 of us) to vote. That night when discussing what time we were going to stop after reaching about 64% of the voting, I said to leave the voting going, we've reached 4 million total votes, it's obvious there's cheating on both sides, lets just see what CBS do about it. So we let it run until CBS took down the voting. At the height of the voting, with both the Jags and Raiders voting, the server was updating about 50,000 votes every 20-30 minutes when the server would post it's updated totals. There was NO hacking of the server, there was no "making 1 vote look like 50 or 100 or 1000" like was speculated on the Jags board, it was just us efficiently voting as fast as the server could accept them, and as fast as we could push them out. Whilst the Jags obviously had to recruit a large number of people to run their script (and I believe they moved to a .net voting model later on which was more efficient, but not as efficient as us :P ) to cheat, it took very few of us to move the vote very quickly. We didn't want to distribute our voting method to others in THE NATION purely because if too many people ran this, it could potentially bring down their server with a massive flood of votes, which is NOT what we wanted. As the CBS rules said "Have Fun", I guess CBS are taking a leaf from the NFL as to what "Fun" is. I also find it funny because the website did say something along the lines of "beware Jaxson, the Raiderfans swarm when threatened", and "swarm" we did. So there you have it, our little group of Aussies basically did this partly as a favour to me, partly to see if we could do it, and partly for sh!ts'n'giggles to releave boredom. I've told the guys and girls that in the coming weeks I'll throw a party as a thankyou. I'll put on some booze and food, and I'll put on some Raider videos, and the only full Raider superbowl game I have recorded, our beat down of Washington, in the hopes of maybe keeping some of them interested enough to come over and watch some games during the regular season. Have a good one everyone! |

Wow I think I'm drooling now.
I'm assuming the command line was via FTP? orrr did tech totally teach me wrong on that too? haha Anyway, thanks for all the awesomness that you and the rest of the Aussies did for us. If CBS decides to run this competition again next year... maybe the other teams will just let us win And I think its crap that cheating is considered no fun hahahahahahha |

nah it wasnt FTP, completely HTTP voting. same as if you clicked the vote button. but as BBBD said, we basically worked out what was sent to the server when you clicked, and only sent that info each time. so instead of refreshing the page each time then resending the data (vote) to the server, we just hammered the server with just the data (one vote) which is how we were able to send so many votes to the server in the same time with such few people.
represent!! anyone see the number of votes the buffalo's got? cheat much? as for why i helped, its sorta like climbing Mt Everest i guess, some things need to be done just to see if it can be.
