As for Ryan, he's one of the smartest QB's to come out in awhile, and he's got the intangibles of a future pro bowler.

I would honestly take Russell, just because of that huge frame, the strongest arm the NFL has ever seen, and is still more mobile then Ryan. Either way, I'm hoping we have a franchise QB, and the Raiders can ride on Russell for a long time.
Russel is raw, I'll give you that but that's about it my friend. I don't know who is will be the better qb, but I can tell you about the predraft consensus on them both. Russel IS RAW, but has upside if he can put it together upstairs. Ryan IS NOT the smartest qb to come out in a long time, just last year brad quinn was the "most polished/pro ready qb to come out since payton manning. You listened to what's his name on nfl network way too much, he was on ryan's junk all year because he is also boston alumni and knows his family. Could ryan be the best ever and russel be a huge flop in 6 months, yeah it's possible but Russel was graded quite a bit higher predraft than ryan was. Good luck my friend with the falcons and with ryan, just keep him out of the dog fighting scene. Yeah that was low but .............

Ehhh, with DeAngelo Hall on the roster, I would say we have to worry about dogfighting more so than the Falcons.

Wow I can't believe people are saying J. Russ arm is overated? I know he didn't make many plays this year because of playing time, but did people forget about week 17 when he threw the 40yrd pass on a rope to J. Porter for the td?

Also I agree if Matt Ryan would have come out last year he would have been the third QB selected which would have made him a late first early second round pick.

ok...I'm going to say this...and I'm not race baiting. But check it. This "he's too raw" **** comes right from the bowels of stereotypical bullcrap that's rampant with fans and the media.

Russell is a pass first QB who was the most accurate in the NCAA his last year. This is not Vick or Vince Young. He is more like Favre or Elway..but because he's black people go to the he's raw card.

He can make any pass and has a big arm. Matt Ryan frankly has nothing on him. Ryan has nothing on Brady Quinn. Matt Ryan "may" be a good QB..there is no doubt about Quin or Russell in my honest opinion. They have all of the skills and the big arm to boot!

Ryans skill set doesnt impress me, at all. His arm is strong enough, but hes no Brett Favre. However, he is a lot like Favre in the sense that he makes a lot of careless throws and bad decisions. He threw a lot of interceptions in college and he will throw even more in the NFL if he doesnt improve his decision making.

Seems to like throwing off his back foot a lot as well, that will get him killed at this level. And unlike the Brett Favres of the world he doesnt have the arm strength to get away with it.

For all I know Ryan may become a Hall of Fame QB and Russell may be a bust. Who will be the better player? Time will tell. If I had the choice right now I would take Russell everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. Hell, I would take Brady Quinn over Matt Ryan.
I agree...Ryan only gets such a high rating because...well..because he was the best QB out of a horribly weak QB class this year. All QBs are a little overrated coming out...save Peyton Manning, Dan Marino and a few others, but Ryan wouldn't got a sniff of the first or maybe even the 2nd round if he came out last year.

Matt Ryan would have been a 2nd rounder in last years draft.

He would have been picked up by the Eagles in Round two...as Ryan IMO is a better QB than Kolb.

Russell
Quinn
Ryan

With that being said....its really funny to think anyone could say that Ryan is better.

Agreed
I never undestood where the Raw Comments originated from. WTF does Raw mean? If you mean Raw by throwing 28TD's and 8ints in his junior year in SEC as Raw, then fine. But then turn around and say Matt Ryan has all the Intangibles and is smarter while he throws 31TD's and 19 fukin ints as a senior in a weaker division with a better Offensive line. If he is so goddam smart why is he throwing the ball to the other team?
Alot of Matt Ryan Hype is part of the East Coast bias. If it wasn't for Mike Mayock and his Biased BULS**** he wouldn't have been a top 10 pick. Just look at how Mike scouts Ryan. With Ryan you get a Review full of highlights and few lowlights completely ignoring his 19int's, with the other prospects you get a bunch of Lowlights with some highlights mixed in. The **** is sickening and Mayock has no credibility as far as i am concerned.

I am not sure that is race but it may have something to do with it. Russell came out as a Jr. He did not attend camp which severely handicapped his progression. He is now here and working hard. He is still very raw as even Kiffin has stated but he is honing his skills and by Sept he will be a much smarter and efficient NFL QB.

the one positive that Russell has over Ryan is that if he doesn't work out at the QB position, he can always move up to the offensive line. Isn't he approaching 400 now ?. I heard taco bell was trying to get an endorsement.

Look if you want to have a respectful discussion then keep it that way. We'll see how fat he looks when he helps the Raiders kill the Falcons this year.
