Are you using Photoshop to make your sigs?
If so, what version?
I'm more partial to the 2nd version, because of the additional blue hue on the right.
From an artistic/design angle, the first rule of thumb is "never place your subject directly in the middle of your piece."
(The lone exception is when the subject is bleeding off most of the edges ...almost as if 'captive' by your borders ...THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS TO EVERY RULE, SO IGNORE THIS IF YOU WANT HA! HA!)
In photoshop, make sure that you're selection tools are set to "anti-alias" to prevent that jagged edge look whenever you cut out images.)
When saving your file as a gif, you'll want to make sure you've selected a Dark Gray color as your "matte" color.
Otherwise you'll get a bunch of white pixels (default matte color for transparency on gifs)
One more question:
When you resize your image to fit your sig, are you holding down the Shift key to constrain the image?
On your first two attempts he looks squished Horizontally, and on this last one, it looks as if he's squished Vertically.
To resize, go Edit Menu>Free Transform
Using your cursor, click and grab on one of the corner controls for your image that appears, hold down the Shift key, and then begin to resize your image.
You can also use the Resize Dialog boxes in the Horizontal Toolbar at the top of the Window to type in an exact % for Height/Width.
(Always make sure these are exactly the same number, or you've skewed your cutout).
