3 reasons not to give up on Raiders season (yet)

    1. Josh Jacobs will hit his stride
Through two games, running back Josh Jacobs hasn't quite lived up to what he had demanded during his holdout. But, it hasn't entirely been his fault. Jacobs ended with -2 rushing yards against the Bills in Week 2, though, and that type of performance is alarming.

Following the historically-bad performance by Jacobs against the Bills, head coach Josh McDaniels had a lot to say, but this stuck out:

"I thought a lot of times, we couldn't even get him to the line of scrimmage without being touched. So, again, I take responsibility for all of that and I'm going to have to do a better job of figuring out what we need to do to get JJ going."

It's obvious that the Raiders' offensive line has to do a better job blocking for Jacobs, and at this point, it can't really get much worse, can it? For right now, I'm trusting McDaniels and his staff to make the necessary changes in order to get Jacobs back to where he should be.

The run blocking has regressed. The same coach is teaching his blocking schemes, so it must be the players missing their assignments and not winning their one on one match ups. No Mack Hollins and his great blocking ability, Van Roten doesn't seem to be getting the job done either. Our TE Mayer can't block too well, but he's new and has a lot to learn. Moreau must have been doing a really good job blocking last season. Alex Bars didn't seem to be that good of a RG, but he must be better than Van Roten. So why did we let these guys go?

I think the injury to Dalton Wagner hurt us, he could have played the RT position and Eluemunor could have been the RG.

Hopefully things jell as the season goes on or Jacobs is not getting anywhere close to what he had last season. This is the kind of blocking Marshawn had when he was here.

To tell you the truth; the Raiders did nothing to upgrade the offensive line...we just got average players on the line...I mean Miller could start on quite a few teams in the NFL; but the rest of them would really struggle to get a starting NFL job elsewhere in the NFL...the trenches are the building blocks to a really good NFL team...

These dudes need to be pushing that sled all week!

Parham seems to have regressed in run blocking. Andre James was never good to begin with - almost all Raider fans wanted him replaced. Van Roten has never been good anywhere he's ever played. Why we stuck with him makes no sense to me. Eleumenor is struggling next to him. It's hard to tell if one weak link is ruining the play of the unit as these guys block in tandems quite a bit. Supposedly the offensive line coach knows what he's doing but how is he accepting the play of this line so far? It's not good in run blocking whatsoever. Pass blocking they are pretty good. Jimmy G is near the top of the league in time to throw so far.

The Bills defense was playing close to the line of scrimmage because they didn't fear deep passes. The Raiders failed to spread the defense and that killed the running game.

Jimmy was 7.7 Y/A, Allen was 7.4. That's the game at Buffalo.

    Career-wise?

Jimmy is 8.3 and Allen is 7.2.

People should watch Jimmy's highlights, he has had many deep passes.

I hope the offense start throwing deep more, if just to keep the defense honest. This will probably lighten the box too and help out Jacobs. If Garoppolo is unwilling to throw deep then take him out and put in someone who will. I know he doesn't have the strongest arm in the NFL, but he's a starting caliber NFL QB, he must be able to throw the ball at least 40 - 50 yds down the field.

Not many in air yards and everyone has highlights. SF was the place to succeed if he could. Top 3 D every year # 1 some years , Shanahans system, all the YAC they get. Garoppolos never been good at deep throws that why the Chiefs won that SB. I do like how he WON the game for us last week, we havnt had that at QB for a while, take the game in his hands and end it. McDaniels wanted Garoppolo so its on McDaniels to scheme for him to succeed. Someone on here called in preseason it when they said we'll be better in the red zone, but it will be harder to move between the 20s. So far that spot on. This is really more on McDaniels playcalling than Garoppolo. Garoppolo is who he is, but McDaniels is going to have to figure out how to call a game after the scripted plays are gone. He still hasnt figured that out.
