Raiders Could Be Planning To Squat On Carr For Now

This is what I have been thinking all along. Truly what is the difference in getting a trade agreed to verbally by February 15th, where the Raiders wouldn't be able to trade him til the trade period opens up. The Raiders would still officially be on the hook for the monies til that trade becomes official

On the other hand, if the Raiders do not find a suitable trade partner prior to the February 15th, why can't the Raiders hold onto him (without cutting him) and seek out a trade partner when the trade period opens up... then they find a trade partner (as Carr is going to want to play, not sit the bench (if worse comes to worst) and at that point the Raiders will hold more leverage over Carr to get a trade done that is better suited for the Raiders than it is for Carr.
Or am I missing something here?
I don't get it, Since an agreed upon trade before the 15th, doesn't change anything regarding the monies Carr is due, til the point the trade can become official.

Anyone care to educate me here, as I'm clearly missing something here?

Thank you for any clarifying responses (in advance).

For some reason I thought a trade could be done and finalized before Feb 15, but clearly that was wrong. If it was up to me I would cut him now and not care about whatever draft picks we could have got for him. I'm more worried about the 40 mill he will get after Feb 15.

I understand if the Raiders choose to keep him past Feb 15 then they can officially trade him after March 15 and possibly have the upper hand with teams more desperate for a QB. But....

    1. Carr wants to just sit out and be paid for not playing

    2. How do you acquire top tier players in FA while having 40 mill hovering over your head

    3. What if no teams want Carr by that time

    4. What if Carr gets hurt

    5. Would he not be a distraction if he is there during the offseason

Is it really worth the risk? If the Raiders can actually get a trade for Carr and not be on the hook for a majority of his 40 mill then it would be worth it, but there are so many intangibles that could hamper the Raiders from moving forward next season, especially acquiring help for the O-line, DT and LBs positions. Just cut him and be done with it, that in itself is a win. Waiting around could bite them in the butt.

Id squat on dc, time limit loses us value in a trade

Carr was smart enough to work a contract that gave him complete control and the upper hand. And that is what he has right now, he has no reason to play nice and can basically do what ever is in his best interests. The Only real options for the raiders are to try their best to get a trade partner before deadline and if they cant... cut him.

I vote to just cut him and be done with it. I trust NO ONE!! everyone would love to fuck us over. Getting stuck with 40 mill will set us back 3 yrs all by itself> It isn't worth it.

Unless they could get everything lined up perfectly with a trusted partner, I agree. Cut him and move forward.

yeah...I can't even believe we're even entertaining any thoughts on this subject. Bye Bye!! I'd squeel the tires and be done and not even look back. It's like their thinking "how can we fuck this up.....there has to be a way" LOL
