Carr is gone. Who should the QB be in 2023?
1. Re-sign Jarrett Stidham as the starter. It's a low cost option and he does know McDaniels' playbook. He also
doesn't have a lot of experience. He did play better compared to Carr, but we also lost the two games he started.
People say he will be better if we fix the OL and D. So would Carr, or any other QB. Would the players be happy
with Stidham as the starter going into the season? Would free agents sign to play with him? There is risk that he could get worse.
He played better against SF compared to KC.
2. Draft a QB with the 7th pick in the draft. If they do this, the rookie would be the starter. Teams can't sit a top ten pick.
How long would it take for the rookie to learn McDaniel's playbook? Would Adams and other vets be willing to stick around?
Also, why would Stidham re-sign when he has no future with the team? Lots of risk here as well.
I think this years QB draft class is weak and risky. Also, the 7th draft pick could be used to improve other positions.
Finally, does McDonalds have time to develop a rookie? A bad start next season and I think he gets fired
3. Sign an established vet. Brady and Garoppolo know McDaniels' playbook. With Brady, Stidham probably re-signs to learn under
the GOAT for a year or two. With Garoppolo, Stidham probably would sign elsewhere due to Garoppolo's age and a lower
chance to be the starter in the future. Would Adams and other players rather play for an established vet?
Would an established vet be more likely to attract free agents? A vet would cost money, not draft picks unless it's Rodgers.
Ziegler and McDaniels have to treat this decision like their jobs depend it, because they probably do.
