He retired 1457 yards away from Walter Paytons rushing record at the time. He retired because of the lack of on field success for the team and didn't like the direction of the Lions. He said something along the lines of his dream was always to play in the Superbowl but he came to the realization that all of his individual statistical achievements didn't put the team any closer to even making the playoffs. Sad if you think about it. The Lions have wasted 2 of the best positional players of all time
