Pretty bad hire. Guy was a terrible coach in Jacksonville. Pretty sure they went to the AFC Championship with a great defense the year AFTER he gets fired. The Chargers defense hasn't been any good the past two seasons and they have fucking Bosa AND Ingram as their pass rushers.

Vincent Bonsignore reported that Bradley mentioned bringing some of his assistant coaches from the Chargers.
Also, Rod Marinelli is for sure being retained on the Raiders staff.

The Chargers held the Chiefs to 23 and 21 points this past season.

    Hired because:

A.) Gruden is familiar with him
B.) Has had top 10 defenses
C.) Already familiar with AFC West

    The cons to the hire:

A.) Usually takes him 4 years to get to the top 10 Def. (maybe not a big deal)
B.) Chargers have better players on D but still ranked 29th in 2020
C.) Those top 10 defenses were arguably set up by someone else i.e. Pete Carroll, Jacksonville's plethora of 1st round picks

So if we look at stats per game, the chargers allowed 100 less total yards than we did. However, they were barely better than at run defense and had 12 interceptions and 27 sacks to our 10 interceptions and 21 sacks. They also allowed 26 points per game and we allowed 29. The only stat that stands out is is the pass defense. Hardly a stark contrast between defense beyond that and they have better defensive talent than we do.
