Like I said, thanks for your input. Sometimes, it does help to read so you can stay on topic. But thanks anyways for trying.

The comment was there are ONLY (2) ways for an NFL team to keep a young up and coming DE past his initial rookie contract.

Obviously, should a team choose not to keep that DE, then there are other ways to get rid of him (i.e. trade him, let him go in free agency, etc.)

But, there are only (2) ways to keep him. Either you hope he doesn’t become elite or you just extend him for $25M+ per year.

There really aren’t any other options for a team to KEEP such a player.

Thanks for adding that they can trade him. Yes they can! Which means, they won’t keep him. Thanks again!

Next time, if u read carefully, maybe ur input really wasn’t needed...

For sure he could. And the Raiders could always hope that they’ve drafted an extremely altruistic player that’s willing to take a below market offer.

I remember people beating up Mack for being greedy and not taking less to stay with the Raiders. It is what it is.

Pretty much all players want to get paid. Can’t really plan that a player will be so altruistic and willing to give up millions to stay with the team.

Here’s a question for you, aside from Brady, who’s the last big name player that took less to stay with the team?

    Bosa?
    Garrett?
    Mahomes?
    Wilson?
    Dak?
    Ezekiel?
    LaVeon Bell?
    Aaron Rodgers?
    Clowney?
    Mack?
    Aaron Donald?
    Goff?
    Wentz?
    Chris Jones?
    Jamal Adams?
    Amari Cooper?
    DeMarcus Lawrence?
    Antonio Brown?
    Matt Ryan?
    Julio Jones?
    Jaylen Ramsey?
    OBJ?
    Eli?
    Peyton Manning?
    Andrew Luck?
    Derek Carr?
    Kirk Cousins?
    Dalvin Cook?

Have you heard any of them willing to give a hometown discount out of altruism? Weren’t they traded because they wanted to get “paid” ala Mack?

Isn’t the topic about how you can KEEP a young stud. Wasn’t one of the options you offered was that they can take less money ala Brady?

Clowney, Abrams, and Ramsay demanded to be paid ala Mack so their teams traded them before their rookie deals were up.

Wasn’t this exactly one of the options you proffered? That you can trade a young stud ala NE and get a bounty of draft picks and open up cap space?

they got traded because their teams deemed it worthy of trading em off for multiple picks and cap cost savings, none of em are getting the demands met, ramsay played last yr on his existing contract hoping for a raise, nothing yet, same for adams, seattle traded for him but didn't give him a raise and we all see clowney,no raise and no team to play for yet

A great way for a player to take a paycut like Brady is to plant a super model wife who's richer than any NFL player into his life so they eventually get married and the guy doesn't actually need the money. That should be option #3 to do it the Patriot Way. Just have your young studs marry the biggest super model in the world.

Mahomes took less. He could have gotten $50M per year if he wanted.
Instead he took a longer contract so the team could keep some players. Year 1 of the new contract he’s only brining in $30M.
He won’t even be close to the highest paid QB, yet again, he could have asked for $50M right off the bat.

    Again...

Irrelevant since the conversation is about how can a team KEEP their young studs past the initial rookie contract.

    I gave (2) options. You gave a 3rd, the Brady/NE route.

I gave a list of players that weren’t willing to go the Brady/NE route. Now you are objecting because....

    Who knows why.

But Ramsay, Clowney, Adams weren’t willing to go the Brady/NE route and their original teams couldn’t keep them past their rookie contracts.

Not sure what the dispute/discussion is at this point?

I’m not really interested in carrying on irrelevant conversations.

Teams have some advantage in keeping a player because they only have to pay the salary. The teams that take players away have to pay the salary and give up something in a trade.
