Chiefs have only $13,674,500 in Cap space right now per Spotrac. With Jones being a UFA, franchising him would be costly. They still have to set aside funding for the rookie class coming in. There's going to be several players the Chiefs will have to release to make any kind of room financially. They are in a bad situation right now. They have 20 UFA's set to hit the open market this year. Interestingly, Jones' salary for 2019 was a little more than $1.5M. At an estimated price tag of $19M for this year coming up, signing him would drain all of their Cap space and then some. I seriously don't think KC will have the capital to franchise Chris Jones. That would negate the need to come up with draft pick compensation. IMO, he's ripe for the picking if Mayock and Gruden want to pull the trigger.
