Raiders beat the 49ers 18-6 in pre-season opener

Johnnie Lee Higgins knew coming into the pre-season that he will have a shot to redeem himself from a shaky first season returning punts. With the loss of Chris Carr, the Oakland Raiders (1-0) pegged the slim receiver as the main punt returner in 2008 and in his first game action; Higgins delivered the first score [...]

    I'm disappointed in tonights performance.

I'm not impressed by JaMarcus at all, considering he's the #1 overall and paid the Big Bucks.

I wasn't impressed by Tommy Kelly either, and for that same Big Bucks reason.

The defense was okay, except it was the Niners.

I know it's only preseason, but some other teams looked in mid-season form already, especially their first stringers. We looked like an expansion franchise.

But, hey! We won. For whatever that's worth.

Let's see what happens next week.

I forgot to add the positives.

    Michael Bush was a positive.

And the fact that Kiffin used the shotgun in 3rd and long was a positive too.

After I watch the game again, I'm sure I'll find some more, but ... .

JaMarcus only threw five passes. Run game was excellent. We forced four turnovers, and Kelly was key on a early 3rd and 1 stop. O-Line was shakey.

How could I forget Johnnie Lee Higgens.

We need to involve him more in the regular offense.

    Probably will.

Actually the defense forced six turnovers. Two fumble recoveries, two INTs, and two stops on 4th down. I think Hiram Eugene is way better than Stu was. Its gonna be tough to cut the roster down to 53 players. Kiffin = BEAST!

It appears that the 1st preseason game the priorty was to establish a running game which meant continued work with the O-Line. with 248 yards and Bush getting a TD on a 4th and 1. That part of the game plan seemed to be successful.

I'm not worried or disappointed its only a preseason game and the 1st of 4. No team looks like its in mid season form everyone is playing 2nd and 3rd lines, playing players to see who has a shot at making the team. Remember we went 4 and 1 under shell looked like a super bowl lock and what happened? 2 win season.

The fact that Russell only threw 4 passes and Walter was 10-12 that's great which was 16 total for the game. Remember Gannon only threw 16 to 18 times a game himself with the running game we had with him.

What I like "NO TDS GIVEN UP" instead the niners had to settle for 2 FG's under any game that is great.

Exactly. Just like I said here:

Countdown to Paydirt: San Francisco 49ers vs. Oakland Raiders | Silver and Black Report
    What to expect:

Run baby run. The Oakland offensive line is more adept in their run blocking, so expect the coaches to call a lot of rushes early and often to gain some confidence and showcase the quality of depth in their backfield. It’s imperative this group starts gaining confidence and that they re-establish success on the ground, as they did in 2007. And with Russell now at the helm and very little behind him in terms of experience, giving him as much support and a productive rushing attack will go a long way in his development.
