I really like the mag and the effort that goes into it is obvious.
My only critique is that it still looks more like a program than a magazine. I think part of that is the over use of Photoshop (or whatever graphic program is used). Take a look at some major magazines and you'll notice less is more with graphics and effects. Also the layout mimics a program more than traditional magazine layouts. Are you guys using Quark or InDesign for layout?
Please know my comments were meant to be constructive. As a designer I know what it feels like to have your work critiqued and I post this with the best intentions.

Hey Spartan.
No offense taken.
We're looking for as much constructive criticism as possible.
As far as the layout goes, we're not really trying to mimick another magazine or a program, but to make this different from both and utilize ideas from every type of publication to give it a different feel.
We didn't really have a lot of time to go over the exact layout or decide on which way we'd go with these first printouts and are still feeling our way through the entire process.
We hope to have it streamlined to the point where it does have a truer magazine feeling without looking too much like any other magazine.
(Hope that makes sense.)
Little by little, we are progressing in the right direction.
Right now, it's simply a matter of finding layouts we like and want to stick with that will characterize our mag' into the next Volume.
We've listened to every critique and tried to implement as many of the ideas that folks have sent us with the small staff we have producing the magazine right now.
Keep the great ideas comin' guys!
You'll see more and more progress as we find new/better ways to streamline our production process to improve this product by leaps and bounds over the first few issues.
