    Carroll: Kiffin Will Want Russell

ITEM: If the Raiders don't take LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell with the first pick of the April 28 draft, stop the presses. At a speaking engagement near Palm Springs the other day, USC coach Pete Carroll said he figured he knew his former protégé, Lane Kiffin, would pass on Notre Dame's Brady Quinn in favor of Russell, now that Kiffin is the head coach of the Raiders. His reasoning: Kiffin likes throwing it downfield, and Russell's downfield arm is much stronger than Quinn's. "The kid from LSU is exactly what they're looking for, more than the kid from Notre Dame,'' Carroll said. Just another brick in the wall of the evidence that says we don't quite know where Quinn will go, but we know where Russell is likely to go.

That quote sounds like Russel will be it IF we take a QB... which IMO is not set in stone...

Russell won't be the pick if someone like Landry or Meriweather runs a sub 4.4 forty. Al's gotta have his DBs.

I am still not sold on Russell. He draws comparisons to Caulpepper, although he is/was a great athlete) Daunte will never win the big one... Athletic QB's win Super-Bowls only when they have the brains and heart to go with it.

I would rather see the Raiders pick up someone like David Carr, or even Jeff Garcia via free Agency, use the 1st pick on either A. Peterson or M. Lynch. I don't have the patience to spend an entire season watching someone like Russell stand on the sidelines holding a clipboard.

I am conflicted with this whole issue. For my part I would rather see us trade down, pick up a great RB, i.e. Lynch, and package some picks to pick up a great DT. On the other hand if we can work trades and picks that we can get Russel and a great RB, then I would not be as dissappointed. I just feel that QB in this years draft may not be the best way to spend our currency. I will continue to watch how this develops as we head towards the draft.
    IT MAY BE A CHIEF'S TOWN, BUT IT'S A RAIDER'S NATION...

If russel's the man , we better also draft some RB's.....
Slowmont, decent, but cant even hold up a full season....admitted to eating to much junk and not studying the playbook.....and with the money we're paying him plus coming off the knee injury.....some thought he was overweight then, imagine when he comes back!!
I really hope we dont start the season with russel and slowmont, just had to get that out.....

Thanks for telling the world douche bag..I mean what if for example the Lions wanted Quinn, and they thought we were going to take him...

We could get some picks and still get our guy..Mind your own business Carroll..

My money is still on Carroll being the next HC of the Chargers...Can you say sabotage..

I've heard he was more like Doug Williams than Culpepper.

Yeah I'm a USC fan.... but he needs to shut his damn mouth. I hope to god Adrian Peterson does amazing at the combine though so we just pick him... Russel is way too risky... just pick up a vet who knows how to manage the game and can be like brad johnson or trent dilfer who can manage the game and stock up on the run game and worry about the pass later. Trent Green could be cut. That might be an option. He is pretty proven in my opinion

The word on Russel, though, is that he's a very good decision maker. Physically, he's a lot like Culpepper. But his game is a lot more polished and he's a better decision maker than Culpepper was coming out. And on top of it, he has the strongest arm in football -- college or pro. That's hard to pass up.

Carrol helps sell copy, no stranmger to the game.

Other events indicate Russel as well. Kiffin throws downfield much more than a pure WCO, especially between the 40s. Russel would be great in his system for that exact reason.
