The development is surprising, since most league observers presumed that Lombardi and former head coach Art Shell were caught up in a one-stays-and-one-goes situation.
Instead, both go.
During the season, Shell publicly accused someone within the organization of undermining him to the media. Shell refused to name the culprit, but most league observers assumed that Shell was talking about Lombardi.
Per a league source, Lombardi hopes to land in Tennessee, and he's banking on his relationship with defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz in order to make it happen. But the concern/speculation/scuttlebutt is that Lombardi's pissing match with Shell could hurt him.

Great, I mean let's get rid of the only guy that is not living in the 70s for this franchise. If this happens and Art Shell is made GM, I will be sorely disappointed in Al Davis. I will never respect Al again because it can only mean he took a guy that did a good job and forcefully replaced him with a guy that did a lousy job, just because he himself doesn't want to look stupid. This is ridiculous if Lombardi is pushed out. It just goes to show in this world no matter how hard you work for someone or what kind of job you do, it is all about who you know and not what.
Very disappointing to hear.
