His offensive juggernaut has scored 7 (I think) more points than we have.

wow, that's crazy. why would he leave? I thought he had total control. I'd love to have him back, as well as BILL CALLAHAN coaching our O-Line. (YEAH, I SAID IT!)
unfortunately, i realize it's prretty unlikely. |

It's Not That Simple...

You can't compare apple's to oranges, which BTW is what you're doing. Gruden has considerably less talent offensively this year than Sgt. Slaughtered has in Oakland. Considerable is an absolute understatement! The difference between what is happening in Oakland and what is happening in Tampa Bay is about talent and Bruce Allen. In Oakland, Al Davis picked the players, say what you want about Al's failure to hire and/or retain good coaches, sure! However, Al always brings in top players. Bruce Allen was nothing more than a figurehead before and even then he almost ruined our cap. Now Allen has complete control and Gruden is a not a great personnel guy anyways, other than his pick of Rich Gannon (remember it was Gruden that wanted the bum Tui also). It is just a bad combo over there now. I would love to have Jon Gruden back in Oakland. At least, he was able to beat the Chiefs, Chargers and Broncos, and to an old time Raider fan like me, it is all about that pride in the division. Even the games he lost against AFC teams, Gruden gave them hell till the last second of the game, unlike Sgt. Slaughtered whose Oakland Raiders just simply get blown out. Another thing I loved about Gruden, hell he kept us close every game, even those seasons when we went 8-8. Come back home Chucky!!! We have a place for you here in Oakland, speaking for the fans like myself of course. Come back home. Let Al handle personnel you call the game. Please Chucky come back! Because.............Sgt. Slaughtered SUCKS!!! So does Leiutenant Dan (Forest Gump reference) AKA Tom "Welcome To The Bed Breakfast" Walsh. Can't you guys see yet??? This team is not going to turn around under Art Shell, it is only going to get a lot, lot worse. I am afraid to think of what the Chiefs will do to us tomorrow. The one benefit is that Herm Edwards is also an idiot almost to the level of Sgt. Slaughtered and Lieutenant Dan.....well that's not fair, Edwards is slightly brighter that the Sgt. and Lieutenant put together. We are now officially becoming the Bengals of the AFC West. |

Gruden ran off the GM. Cost the team draft picks so they couldn't get better through the draft. Makes questionable personnel moves regularly. I mean come on so far Showtime and Darell Russell have made their way on to that team. He then drafts a RB and runs the tires off of him in his rookie season. He won on the coat tails of Dungy and Gannon. PERIOD!!
Soon maybe people will wake up and see that Gannon was a HUGE PART in the raiders resurgence and not give all the credit to Gruden. This league is sickening. The climate is toxic. Who wants to stink things through and fight their way to success anymore. Makes me appreciate Walter Payton more since he played for Chicago for all of that time. Gruden didn't change his spots. When people talked about Gruden working so many hours and coming in early for game planning Al joked more like came in early to call others to look for a coaching job. He is what he is and we had a good run. Let's leave it as that. |

First, let me qualify my statement with saying, NO, Gruden will never coach here again. Now let me say this:
Gruden was born to coach the Raiders. Hell he even looks like a Raider! The most important thing he brings to his teams is they all believe in him and his system! Win lose or draw, his teams will fight to the death for him. He knows how to motivate players and they love him. He understands how to make changes based on his personnal. Unlike "some" coaches who take a system and attempt to jam it down the players throats regardless of the personnal, he adapts and bends the playbook to take advantage of the players he has. I could count on one hand the number of fans who didn't like him either. He had the support of the team, the fans and the community. He knew how to coach a game. Unlike "bed and breakfast" he understands how to study film to take advantage of the opponents weakness's. He also does something SHOCKING! He makes changes at halftime! Now the flipside: As a fan I was horrified to see him leave. Questions still remain as to why he did leave. Was it really his family or was he running from the obvious. It didn't take a rocket scientist to see the problems over the horizon in regards to the age of the team(33 years old on average) the injuries, and the horrible salary cap situation that was 1-2 years from becomming a nightmare. His star was on the rise being the youngest head coach in the NFL with an impeccable, nearly spotless coaching record. He knew his value was never going to get any higher then it was at the end of that season. I believe it was because of that reason that he forced Al's hand into trading releasing him from his contract. All of this talk about Al being overshadowed in the media by Gruden is a complete joke. Did anyone really believe that BS? And saying Al was lowballing him on a contract is ignorant bliss. It makes me laugh everytime I hear that one! Al is willing to open his pocketbook for whatever makes the Raiders successful. Bottom line. This current situation, if true would worry me quite a bit. I would even question his character if he leaves them in the same situation he left us. You cannot just coach a team in their prime, you have to be able to coach a team out of the doghouse into the prime. Thats the sign of a great coach. I will for sure be curious to see how this all plays out.

Gruden sending out feelers, just like he did to us. Every job had his name linked to it. Notre Dame, Tampa, anything that came up him and Mortensen from ESPN were all over it. He hasn't changed, he sees a team on the down hill slide and bails. He's a good coach with good players, he sucks when the team sucks. He needs someone like Al to get him players.
