Shell and Lombardi not speaking?

Don't remember reading this anywhere.

Quote:
...the whispers say things are not all well in Raiderland. Shell and Mike Lombardi, the team’s personnel chief, are said not to be speaking, and bossman Al Davis supposedly was calling folks he knows around the NFL last week seeking opinions on offensive coordinator Tom Walsh. Mix in the issues surrounding wide receivers Jerry Porter and Randy Moss, and you have the makings of a volatile situation.

If it's true, it's hard to know who to side with.

I suspect Lombardi was concerned with Shells choice of OC from the start and his concern has turned to disgust after the evidence has piled in. (As many of us were and are)

Lombardi being the buffer between Al and Shell means to me that Shell isn't happy about it but has to direct it at Lombardi because Al is 'the guy' and Al is trying to keep to his word and 'but out'. Al calling around would seem to be that as much as he wants to support Shells choice, he wants to have 'back up' before he approaches Shell on it. He doesn't want it to be perceived that its a knee jerk reaction based only on his own feel for the situation.

Al doesn't want to waste a whole season in an offensive (and i mean that literally) system that is going know where. If you are going to make a change there, make it before you lose the team and the entire season. If a change is needed and can be made in a timely manner, not only do you have a slim chance of salvaging this season but also a chance for the players to grow in that system for next year.

Hows that?

Man, it sounds like our entire organization is in shambles. What to do?? No wonder we are the laughing stalk of the NFL. I'm disgusted!!

Lombardi is the only one in the Raider front office I trust. He really pushed for Patrino. I don't think he wanted Shell and most certainly didn't want Walsh. I wouldn't be surprised if he left at the end of the year......

Good, let there be some action. People need to be accountable for there actions, the offense sucks. As in regular business, somebody has to take responsibility, it has to be Walsh. I am happy that we are looking for coordinators, who can run NFL offenses.

Gee imagine Ira Miller throwing dirt on the Raiders Just shocking since he is an ex SF Chronicle 49er beat writer and hates Al Davis.

I dont believe Al davis would call other people in the NFL and ask them about his team.

He calls them all the time when looking for coaches if the many reports are to be believed.

I had also read at the time Lombardi really wanted Petrino. Of all the supposed candidates, the Petrino choice was the only one (that I read about) that Lombardis name was mentioned with.

Good analysis. This is not good. I wish Al would just hand things over to lombardi and trask already.

This certainly makes sense to me. I wouldn't be devastated if our offense struggled this week and Walsh was replaced. I'm with you, when you realize the wrong guy is in place you immediately make a change. Lombardi is the one guy who we know is the most "in touch" with today's NFL and he knows Walsh is a joke.
