I hate that I am right

I posted this back on 18 Feb when everyone else was so high on the Shell Hire....I wanted Shell fired in 94 because I thought him and walsh was clueless and they are even more clueless today. We hade a ton of talent in 94 and they couldnt get the job done and there is no way they ever will in 2006 either!!!! Please read what I posted below and tell me i wasnt right.....

Come on Shell and Walsh couldnt get a 1000 yard rusher with Bo and Allen what makes anyone think they can get it done now.

When owner Al Davis introduced Shell as his new coach Feb. 11, Davis talked about getting back to a power running game. "We've gotta run that football better, we've gotta run it tougher, and people have to understand that they're gonna get knocked," Davis said. "Not what we call zone blocking."

But during the Shell/Walsh regime in Los Angeles, the Raiders never once had a 1,000-yard rusher. The highest mark during those six seasons was Harvey Williams' 983 in 1994. The offensive line gave up 50 sacks in '94, part of the general malaise that convinced Davis to dump Shell as the Raiders prepared to move back to Oakland.

Well... Bo only played 8-10 games.... and Allen started the remainder...

it's tough to have a 1,000 yard back with the carries being shared like that...

Give Art some time. Its only been TWO games. Hes leading this ship for the long haul. Art shell has winning record if you forgot. It takes everyone somitime to get back into a new or old prefession!

Walsh needs to be canned though! (imo)

Here is my one sentence.

"Shell compiled a record of 56 wins, 41 losses, and was named AFC Coach of the Year in 1990, when the Raiders won the AFC West division with a 12-4 record, and advanced to the AFC championship game in the playoffs."

I love posts like this where people use one statistic to misrepresent the situation.

To put some decent facts around the situaion:
1989 - Total rushing yards 2,038 ranked 9th in NFL. YPC 4.49 ranked third. Bo Jackson had 950 yards in 11 games, Steve Smith 471 and Marcus Allen 293 in 8 games.
1990 - Total rushing yards 2,028 ranked 9th again. YPC 4.09 ranked 12, 20 TD's ranked 3rd. Bo had 698 in 10 game (5.6 ypc!!!), Marcus 682, Smith 327.
1991 - 1706 total rushing yards ranked 17th. Roger Craig was the feature back but never lived up to his 49er days and only had 590 on the season.
1992 - 1794 total ranked 11th. Eric Dickerson was brought in to replace Craig and had 729 yards.
1993 - 1426 yards ranked 26th. Marcus gone and no real feature back. However the overall offense was ranked 12th.
1994 - 1512 yards ranked 21st. Harvery Williams ran for 983 yards.

The year before Art took over the Raiders only ranked 18th in yards despite having Bo and Marcus.

Hope this puts a better perspective on things.

Didnt we have the #1 overall rushing offense under Shell? so what if we didnt have a 1,000 yard back, #1 overall rushing offense is better!

shell's main problem is his choice of walsh and his loyalty to him so far. he needs to let walsh go before Al makes the call. it would be better if Art made this call.

As i remember, plenty of us were disappointed in the Shell hiring. I myself was but i supported it after the fact in that it was what it was. The Walsh hiring is where i really was at a loss for words. You really had to try hard to be optimistic after hearing that bit of news. I remember hoping along with a lot of other people that this was an erroneous report and that Walsh was hired for something else, anything else, pre-game meals, whatever, only to hear it confirmed. Again, you hope for the best but many of us had very deep concerns at that point.

I wouldn't pat myself to hard on the back over being right on this as many of us were (so far) right. Frankly, you would have had to had your head in the sand to have gone through that era and not been very disappointed at the news. The younger fans who didn't experience it get a pass because you had to be 'there', but c-mon, it didn't take a mystic to predict the likelihood of what we are seeing through our first 2 games.

Lets just hope the majority of us are proved wrong in the capacity of the B and B dude to get his act together in time to salvage the season (in any respect) and before the staff loses the team and we have to start over again. We have a lot of good young players and it would be a shame to have the powers that be not cut bait in a timely fashion so as to be able to bring in the components needed to finish this thing.
