Jerry Porter info....an update

OK.....so things WERE going well with Porter and the Raiders towards the end of camp and a little beyond.

Porter knew the offense would stink (he was teammates with Tim Brown for a while and they did talk), but he decided to just go with it because he is getting paid.

Things got bad again when Shell decided to be an asshole about the situation. Shell doesn't like Porter AT ALL. There is nothing Porter can do to fix that. It could be that Porter playing makes Shell look soft....who knows. Anyways, when Porter saw that he was still at the bottom of the depth chart after the cuts and trades and Whitted was announced starter he was pissed. He went to Shell about it and Shell told him that he is going with the guys that give them the best shot to win. If that's not a slap in the face, then I don't know what is........maybe it was Shell's payback for Porter wearing the Franco Harris fan club shirt to his office in their first falling out when Shell was initially hired.

Porter let loose and mouthed off to the entire coaching staff. He went back to Al Davis and redemanded the trade. He wants out real bad. Porter is in the best shape of his career and wants to be elite. He can't be elite if he doesn't play. The other part of him is that it isn't all about the money. He wants to win. With the Raiders he won't be winning and he won't be playing. Since Al Davis won't move him for whatever is offered, he is doing what he can to piss him off as much as he can.

Also, before the game against the Chargers, Jerry told AB to take out a life insurance policy because he doesn't stand a chance out there.

Porter and Moss are friends. The difference is that Porter can't play and Moss can. If Moss was put at the bottom of the depth chart and deactivated you could expect him to go on national television and rip the Raiders. Things would be just fine of Shell would stop being an ass and put Porter in opposite Moss.

The offense we are witnessing is the same offense that Hos and Brown hated so much that they ignored the play calling and ran their own plays. This is an offense that didn't work in the 90s, but survived on an incredible running attack featuring Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson. The Raiders led the league in being sacked and their only hope for the passing game came when the team ignored Walsh. When this happened it was clear to Davis that the players had completly lost respect for the coach and the staff and that led to Shell being fired.

If you haven't noticed Shell has an oddly shaped head. Rather small on the top and hats don't fit nicely. How does a man with a pigeon brain become a head coach in the NFL? How does a man get fired because of his horrible offense and terrible play calling get rehired by the same organization and hire the same OC that did him in last outing? Shell is not a smart man at all. His coaching is more focused on the player aspect that he learned while he was in the league. He is a motivator and a disciplinarian. He doesn't understand that football in the 60s is not the same as football in the 21st century. If he wants to continue to be a coach past next season, he should fire Walsh and look for a real OC that can create an offense that works today.

This is exacly how i see it. Shell just dont wana play porter he turned his team and fans agaisnt him. I always liked porter and he has talent. If porter was 2 play this weekend and the passing game looks good we win it makes Shell look dumb for not playing Poer, and as if porter won. Shell wont let tha happen so I dont see Porter playing any time soon

it could be quite possible that shell is still trying to get back at jerry for transpired in the offseason. but at the same time, porter might not be helping the situation.

I would hope that Art would be able to put the good of the team before his own personal feelings. I would have to say that I would be a little dissapointed if Porter did indeed try to mend things, and Art blew him off.

I guess Art feels Porter hasn't paid his dues yet or isn't being genuine, hopefully that'll happen sometime soon. The team wasted a lot of time and money molding Porter into a solid #2 receiver, they should be able to collect on thier investment. If Porter really does want to mend his ways, and put the team first I'm all for letting him start and finish out his contract.

Porter is decent but come on, he is too inconsistent. He had his chance but he'd rather be Jerry Porter. I don't care who you are, no one is above the coach, especially a first year/returning coach. You either go along for the ride and take the bumps and bruises or you stay on the porch and pout and thats what he appears to be doing...

Here's the thing, Porter would not even be a factor in the game anyway the way the O line has been holding up. So he should just be quiet and sit on the bench with his millions and STFU sooner or later people are going to realize that the B&B man should be flipping flap jacks instead of calling plays the sooner Al Davis realizes this the better for us all, the more he waits the more stupid this all will look and it will explode, either get rid of him or hire a consultant to help him with playcalling someone who does not sculpt prehistoric plays in caves.
