Lions head coach Rod Marinelli sat down with reporters and wanted to clear the air about his decision to fly the team to Oakland on the same day they played the Raiders. While Marinelli refused to discuss it before or immediately after the game, he gave two reasons why he did it. One, the Lions will play in Arizona this season in a late Sunday afternoon game and then fly back and play on Thanksgiving against the Dolphins. He said part of his reasoning was preparation for that. Two, he said the Bucs underwent a similar -- but much tougher -- "journey'' in 1996 that created a lot of adversity that the team had to overcome. Marinelli believes that it helped bring the team together and ultimately helped them win the Super Bowl championship. Marinelli's overall theme was that he wanted to see how the players would respond in an adverse situation because the NFL is loaded with adverse situations.
