I suppose replacing the talent and attitudes sounds like a decent idea. Both guys can be really good players when they are on; its just that Porter struggles with consistency and overall seperation with his routes. The only thing I dont like is the fact that we'd be eating Porter's salary and then getting a new WR who wants a major boost in his salary. Obviously i'm not paying the bills so I dont have a problem with it but I think it makes it a little harder to get done.

Absolutely.....I agree completely with you. Getting someone like Branch is much better than grabbing some backup DT or OL and he's definitely better then any player we'd get if we traded Porter for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Raiders are always good with the cap, so its always a possibility. I still think by the time the season comes around Porter is going to give in and stop acting like an arrogant ass.....but we'll have to wait and see. |

Sirius was talking about which receiver could immediately step in and fill the void left by Branch for the Pats and I immediately thought, Jerry Porter! I actually think he could be a pro-bowl receiver with the Pats, but that's niether here nor there. But I agree RINY, Branch fills an immediate need in our WR corp and Porter makes perfest sense for them.

I would do this deal as well (and even give them a draft pick as well). Branch has shown that he has great skills, and can also make plays in big games (Superbowl MVP). I also think he would be a better leader in the locker room (Branch's problems have all come from wanting more money, so it wouldn't be like we are picking up another malcontent like Porter has been). Salary, as other people have said, would be the major problem, but it would be great if we could figure out a way to make it work (also, Bill B. has taken guys similar to Jerry Porter in attitude, ex: Corey Dillon.)
When I first heard about Branch's hold out, I always thought about just swapping disgruntled receivers with the Patriots (since Porter's problems came around the same time). This move would really give us a spark on offense, and in our team morale as a whole. |

He makes $1 million this year and next.
We trade him we're looking at $6.45 million in dead cap money. Then we got Moss' 2007 cap number thats roughly $11.8 million. Gabriel and Curry both coming up for free agency after the 2007 season. So we're already looking at a hell of a lot of money poured into wideouts. All we need is another one that has already rejected a deal that would pay him 5+ million a year. |

I say if we have a chance we should make the trade. I'm pretty sure something can be arranged to lower Porter's cap hit. We just have to make sure we have a good chance at resigning Branch and is asking for Porter type money rather than getting paid like a true number 1.
