Vince Young Wants Big Bucks$$$$$$

According to the Nashville City Paper, the Titans need about $50 million to sign Vince Young and approximately 40 to 50 percent of that amount will have to be guaranteed. Young’s agent, Major Adams, says the $49.5 million contract Alex Smith landed as the No. 1 overall pick in San Francisco in 2005 is being used as a guideline for Young's contract.

Yeah, I heard this on Sirius today. Makes me wonder too what the Saints are going to have to give to Reggie Bush. I'm beginning to think the Texicans might not have had a bad idea agreeing to a contract in advance with Mario Williams and making him the top pick in the draft.

Do you think were entering a phase when NFL owners start balking at paying this ridiculous money to rookies before they ever take a snap? Personally, I think it has gotten way out of hand. Especially paying $50 million for a QB who, let's face it, many NFL gurus consider a project.

its crazy, very unfair for people who actually labour really hard and only get paid 250 a week while a QB unproven gets 50 million playing a sport and something he loves to do

its even worse when they complain they dont get enough and hold out which is pathetic

So what happens to these rookies if their teams can't afford to sign them to a contract amount that they want?

Really, Its got to come to a head soon.

But if you look at it this way over a 4 yr contract thats 6.25M guaranteed per yr. I still think he will bomb.

Tenn. fans are just going to see their tix prices go up to see a mediocre team this year. Forget buying a beer there without a credit check and a blood test.

Wow, who is his agent? It almost seems like they are over reaching thier bounds now a days. That is a lot of money. If he does not start this year, it does not seem money well spent. We will have to keep a hairy eye ball on this one...

The Rules With the NFL Draft Our...When you draft a Player You Have The Rights To That Player Until Week 6 Of The Upcomming Season...In Which The Player Will then become a Free Agent. Ive Never Heard Of a Team Not Signing there top picks and letting this happen...so bassically The Titans and Vince have a long time to get a contract done.....

This is the only thing the nba has on the nfl. Rooks can only get paid so much, they can get max contracts so there's no holdouts. That way a guy like young or bush isn't getting paid more than the guys already on the team. Rookies shouldn't have the largest contracts because they haven't prooved they can play. The NFL needs to limit how much these rooks can make there first couple of years because it's not rite.

Think about it, at your job if some newbe straight out of college came in and was making 20,000 more a year than you and your doing the same job. . . how you feel about that?? Especially when he hasn't prooved he can handle the job.

That being said..... I wouldn't give Young 50 bucks..... he'll stink it up and be out of the league in five yrs. C Ryan Leaf or Akili Smith.

And isn't Mario Williams already signed. Looks like Vince and his agents have been hitting the Chronic a bit too much. :

It wasn't that long ago that quite a lot of people here wanted him. What would the reaction be to this if we had taken him?

you can get 100s of unproven rookie QBs for 250 a week. I'm sure some will pay 250 a week to have an opportunity to win a spot on the roster.

teams pay them that much money because they are getting an investment back, they may turn out to be a bust but they have to take that chance their is no other way.
we all know that the shelf life for an NFL player in an avrage is not very long so they have to get what they can. I still remember Shaun Alexander saying he wanted money to take care of himself his kids and his grandkids, after he retires where else is he going to generate that type of income? RBs hit 30 and nobody else is willing to give them a big contract so they have to get it their rookie year.
