The Titans have balanced out their free-agent bounty for the offseason: two for the offense, and now two for the "D." Following the signings of LB David Thornton, WR David Givens and C Kevin Mawae, the Titans kept the checkbook out as they added former Steelers FS Chris Hope, ranked atop PFW's list of free-agent safeties. More signings could come soon as LBs Kevin Bentley and Nick Greisen are in town to visit. Hope represents an upgrade over last year's starter, Lamont Thompson, and he follows in line with the club's hope to improve its speed across the board.
Former first-round pick Mike Williams signed a two-year contract with the Jaguars on Tuesday. Williams’ contract includes a $2 million bonus, and the Jaguars could use him at either guard or tackle depending on his performance in training camp. Jacksonville wasn’t satisfied with the play of OGs Vince Manuwai and Chris Naeole at times last season.
The Colts re-signed PK Jose Cortez, who could be handed the PK job if Mike Vanderjagt leaves via free agency. Cortez was signed last December and handled kickoffs for the final three regular-season games and the playoffs. He has converted 53-of-74 field-goal attempts in his career (71.6 percent). Last season, prior to joining the Colts, he hit 12-of-17 attempts while spending time with three teams.
