Chris Hope
A so-called "insider" on the ESPN Boards is reporting that Chris Hope will be coming in later this week and doing an interview with the Raiders. Should be interesting to see if we actually bring him in or not. There's still a lot of talent in the FA pool. I just hope we can be smart about it and pick up the right kind of players that we can not only fill our holes with but build our Franchise around.
"My source told me, the Raiders are bringing in Safety Chris Hope (Steelers) for an interview this week. That's all I have to report at this time. Chris played college ball at Florida State...and worked well with Troy Polamalu last year. That may have been the best safety tandem in the league."

They are trying to address the need for OL, S, blocking TE and QB...so far so good, but they need help in OLB as well...

I think if we got chris hope to sign a deal, that would start off FA just right. It will be hard, no doubt, to sign him because he'll demand a little bit of money. But it would be a good move for Oakland. That would be one exciting pickup, seeing that we would finally have a REAL safety.
So far, its just SPECULATION, and if it's true its still only a nibble. But good to see at least there are some fish biting right now!!!!! Go Al Davis, in you and the Oakland Raiders Front Office I Trust!!!!!! **I think Oakland this offseason REALLY needs to address these positions, via FA & the DRAFT: Qb, Lb, Safety, Ol, Dl, and another Rb. We can probably in all actuallity address 3 of the 6 in the draft (players who have a LEGIT shot to contribute) meaning we still need at least 3 fairly decent FA signings.

I really HOPE we sign him. He would be a great addition, but until I hear the news from this site, I wont get my HOPEs up.

Hope would be an excellent addition and will bolster our secondary immediately. He can play both S positions very well.

I haven't forgot about Hope, I just don't recall hearing that the Steelers were keen on resigning him and that worried me. The Steelers generally like to keep their own.
He's not fast or quick. He can tackle and had 96 last year. He's young enough to be a good pick-up as long as its to play strong safety. He has coverage skills even though he's not the fastest, so that makes him a decent SS in my book. I hope its true.
