Raiders could get Lucky

1. Memo to Houston: You should have called Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt for an interview. Nothing against Gary Kubiak -- the guy did a nice job with the Broncos -- but how did teams looking for a head coach let Pittsburgh's Whisenhunt slip through the cracks? He's the most attractive candidate out there and available to anyone willing to wait another two weeks. New Orleans hired an offensive coordinator, and it wasn't Whisenhunt. Ditto St. Louis and Green Bay. Now Houston has named Kubiak its next head coach, and more power to him. But how do you ignore Whisenhunt? Nobody has been better in the playoffs. Oakland could get lucky. Give the guy a call. Remember, Pittsburgh not only knocked off the top three seeds in the AFC, but Whisenhunt's offense produced touchdowns on 10 of 13 trips inside the opponent's 20 in the playoffs.

Coach of the Weekend
Whisenhunt, Pittsburgh offensive coordinator: The Steelers get lucky again. They get to keep the guy another year just because everyone else was in such a hurry to hire ... Mike McCarthy? Scott Linehan? Sean Payton? I don't know about you, but I didn't see a better coaching job out there than what Whisenhunt did in this year's playoffs. His play-calling against Denver was superb, with the Steelers converting an astounding 10 of 16 third downs and scoring on their first four possessions ... and in Denver, where the Broncos had been 4-0 in AFC Championship Games.

there's still one team out there that didnt panic and hire some scrub because ppl in the media thought they should be in a hurry.

From what I saw in the AFC cHAMP GAME, Whisenhunt HAS the formula to defeat Denver's defense, something we so need realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly badly!

Coaches for the SB are almost all passed over becasue the teams want to get their coaches and staffs set (you know get all the good ones). Its a wrong mentality that people beleive that only the best coaches, assistants, position coaches are now taken.

There is still Whisenhutt, Rivera, Lofton, Grimm, Singletary, Sherman, Shell, Trgovac, and countless others who are quality and likely available for interview. Not to mention the numerous position coaches ready for bumps.

I agree, but still the Senior Bowl and comming up draft need to be checked. I guess our scouts are making reports and work-outs will do the trick and there still is enough time what am i doing....i agree

So how pissed will people be if Al waits until after the superbowl, then hires some other retread?
I would have to jump on the "Al is going senile" wagon.

i agree with the way this guy coached pittisburgh why whouldnt we get him. I mean we need our offensive to score more points than the we have been playing. Randy Moss needs to get the ball because with the offensive we had that didnt happen. Lets just get him our choices are running out.

I like bragging about Al Davis when he makes big moves, Bold moves. Should Al be able to hire Whisenhunt, it just shows the genius of Al Davis. On the football/Business side of things very few can out manuever Al Davis, the guy is Excellent. I hope he can bring in Whisenhunt, but I also hope he just leaves the guy alone to do his job. The moves Al Davis makes are not the problem, the problem is his bothering of his coaches. Hire Whisenhunt then let him take us as far as he can. Al will look like a genius again, if he can pull this off. Here's seriously hoping he can, and if anybody can do it...Believe me the man for the job is AL DAVIS!!!!

**As for the draft and the senior bowl, dont worry. Al Davis himself also likes to handle those things. Remember how well he handled everything last year. Trading jolley for a first rounder, p-burnt for Oakland's main man Kirk Morrison!!!! Al has his scouts and also he enjoys taking part in that himself. We may be a step behind, but dont worry we wont be that far behind. I really apreciate the job Al Davis can do when he puts his mind to it, if he pulls this deal with Whisenhunt off, everybody in the NFL will realize once again how truly great Al can be when he wants too!!!
Come on Al pull this deal off, give me reason to brag again!!!
