Latest from ESPN's Rumor mill

Raiders back to square one
<Jan. 20> With Al Saunders and Rod Marinelli off the market, the Raiders are scrambling to find viable candidates. The team has interviewed Chargers receivers coach James Lofton, but the Hall of Famer is considered a long shot for the job.
One possibility could be Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt. The Raiders contacted Whisenhunt recently, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, but wouldn't be able to conduct a formal interview until Pittsburgh's playoff run is over.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported last week that Kansas City line coach Mike Solari might be a darkhorse candidate.

bspn always claims to not know what Al and the Raiders are doing, but all of a sudden they know we're "back to square one" and "scrambling" to find candidates? they don't know $hit at this point and nobody does.

The rumor mill on ESPN just takes stories from the teams local newpapers and calls it insider info. I have a feeling our future coach is still in the playoffs. Will we really take someone from the Donks, I doubt it. And Al's hatred for Pittsburgh most likely will not allow Wisenhunt to be the coach. So that leave Seattle and Carolina. On seattle there OC is Gil Haskell, i'm not overly impressed and a DC is Ray Rhodes, I would rather see the Donks win 10 straight Super Bowl then for him to be the coach. So that leaves Carolina with OC Dan Henning, no thanks and Mike Trgovac as the DC. Trgovac might be the choice. That D is awsome he's been coaching for 11 years and I think he might be in consideration for this job. Just a hunch.

I like Trgovac, when Carolina went to the Super Bowl last time, I saw an interview with him, and he said had he known he was going to be interviewed he would have showered, CLASSIC!

Good point about the rumor mill. I just found out something funny though, Ive had ESPN the MAg for about 3 years now, and with that I get free insider so I just recently started looking at the insider stuff, most of it is just garbage, I feel sorry for the people who pay bspn for that.

I have been saying Steve Mariucci since day one.

Mariucci has bay area coaching experience.

Mariucci has coached a great Wide Reciever in T.O. He will clearly utilize Randy Moss rather then become a running team, struggle to find an identity and be conservative like norv.

Mariucci cannot be judged based on his time in detroit. If Steve Mariucci comes to the Raiders we will win the AFC west. It is that simple.

Steve Mariucci will be the best coach in the AFC West. It's that simple

Kansas City - Herman Edwards - baggage, has to adjust to a whole new region of the country, more of a running team which is a far cry from the Chad Pennington led teams he coached. He will post a 9-7 record with that team.

Denver - Shannahan - Denver will lose in the AFC title game. The losing feeling will follow them into the 2006 season. They will go 7-9 as Jake Plummer throws interception after interception.

San Diego - Shottenhiemer - The Chargers are inconsistent year in and year out. One year they win the division. Next year they're fighting for their playoff lives. Hard to say but San Diego will be our biggest rival for afc west

Oakland - Mariucci - Steve Mariucci will put Kerry Collins and Randy Moss through a training camp. Randy will get healthy. Porter will grow and mature. Robert Gallery and the O Line will get disciplined. Moss will have a BREAKOUT YEAR and win the NFL MVP

MARK IT DOWN: Steve Mariucci as the Raiders coach in 2006
Randy Moss as next year regular season and superbowl MVP
