Jerry McDonald, of the Oakland Tribune, reports an Oakland Raiders team official said the club is working to retain the services of defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. An NFL source said Ryan had already agreed to stay in Oakland but has since asked to be released from his contract so he could join head coach Eric Mangini on the New York Jets staff.

Didn't he just sign a 2 year deal?? If he left would we get picks for hjim or is that just HC's. They are the Jets maybe they'll just give us some picks...like last year
This is might not be bad because I'd like the new HC to pick the OC and DC he wants.

Updating previous reports, the San Francisco Chronicle reports Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Ryan will remain with the team after agreeing to a three-year contract extension Wednesday, Jan. 18.



This was just updated as to its prior report that he was gonna opt out.

disagree. With injuries, an organiztional view to play a 'hold serve' defense, rookies, players lost in a vanilla defense, only 2 LB's, in need of 1 more DE, no SS, and no FS, Rob Ryan did a admirable job last year.

Think about it like this -- how would you feel as a D-Coordinator if you had Kerry Collins running the offense?

Our defense was our back-bone, and it never should have been. It was too young, and missing to many pieces to do any 'real schemes.'

Were they updating previous reports from the Oakland Tribune or previous reports that they themselves had done. There are two different papers there, so updating reports doesnt necessarily mean one from the other. Unless I am missing something???

What the hell is going on?? What is Al Davis doing there in Oakland to scary the heck out of everyone and drive them off. Is this bad luck or maybe Al is still working on his own plan. When the Raiders weren't interviewing I thought maybe Al had his sites on someone in the playoffs. It made reasonable sense. Then the Al Saunders RUMORS drew me in, and now I dont know what the heck they're doing. What was once fun to follow is now looking (key word looking) like a nightmare in Oakland, Come on Al Davis the whole Raider Nation is depending on you to make a bold move to bring us back. Come on Al, Come on Al Davis!!!!

Look at New Englands Defense before they were able to get somewhat healthy again. Its a fine line between a good and bad defense. (or offense) Not as simple as many seem to think.
