UPDATE ON THE COACHING CAROUSEL

Here are a few nuggets we've picked up over the past 24 hours or so regarding the efforts to fill the various vacancies around the league:

1. Bucs defensive line coach Rod Marinelli is telling people that he's the favorite for the job in Detroit.

2. He isn't. No final decisions have been made in Detroit.

3. Marinelli is emerging as a leading candidate for the head coaching job in Oakland, eclipsing Chiefs offensive coordinator Al Saunders.

4. Just as we're starting to believe that the Rams will hire a head coach with an offensive background, rumors have revived that Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera is the guy

wow...interesting. No one knows wut will happen and no one has accurate info but this sure deepens the plot.

I might like him over Saunders. And I still feel that if Al was so enamored with Saunders as reported, would we continue to hear rumors of other candidates receiving interviews? I mean we all know how Al likes to interview several candidates when looking for a coach, but I don't think Al has settled on Saunders as has been speculated.

I would rather have Saunders over Marinelli though because he knows the afc west.

Someone on another borrd posted a very good post that said basicly...Saunders is being conisdered for HC and OC and Marinelli for DC. He sounded to have knowledge of wut was going on. But he made it sound like Saunders HC, Marinelli DC and Murlarkey OC. He said we will start hearing alot about Murlarkey in the next week.

That's great to hear Marinelli's actually being considered. I'd love for Saunders to join our staff, but not as a HC as that could prove to be disastrous (a la Norv Turner). He could prove invaluable as an OC and Marinelli @ the helm could help steer Ryan to a top tier defense.

rod marinelli has never even been a coordinator.....


who is Al trying to fool?

i think its obviose that we will be picking the entire staff instead of the coach....

i think its important that ur coords are x n o guys and ur head coach is a speaker motivator ala herm edwards and dick vermiel.....

i think the best case:

pat hill HC
saunders OC
Marinelli DC

that is not a pipe dream either, it could happen....


although im not sure if im a fan of the cover 2 bucaneer defense...
