Raiders seek permission from Chargers...
Per nflfans .com and sfgate .com
"AP reports the Oakland Raiders also have sought permission from the San Diego Chargers to interview wide receivers coach James Lofton." ...kinda confused about that...dont know anything about him and why would we be interviewing him? Then I saw this on another board...take it for what it is worth... I e-mailed Nancy Gay about the Al Saunders interview and she replied back to me this morning. Hopefully, she is not reading this and takes offense that I am repeating what she said. I doubt it, because this will probably all be part of her reporting in the next day or two. She said that Al Saunders was a courtesy interview and he is not a serious candidate stating the obvious reasons why that we have all been discussing. She also said that the Raiders would be bringing in James Lofton. I believe this fulfills the minority interviewing requirement and also gives Al a chance to pick the brain of another AFC West opponent. Nancy believes strongly that ultimately Al will be hiring Pat Hill. I sure hope that she is right. |

I have a feeling Pat Hill will be the man. Al Saunders coments after the interview sounded like a man that will not be part of the process. I dont have the qoute but he said that the Raiders have the talent to be good in the up coming years etc....take a look at the qoute form him if u get a chace. It seemed to me he was talking good of the Raiders but had no inttention of being part of them.

James Lofton for the HC spot or for a position coach? Seems like a heck of a jump from Wide Receivers coach to Head Coach. Was he interviewed for the OC position? Or is this just Al being Al? Don't get me wrong, I liked James Lofton as a player, but that seems odd...

This is just Al being Al. He always brings in assistant coaches from the rival AFC West teams, just to pick their brain and try to get some inside info from them. I doubt Lofton is a serious canidate.

Pat Hill makes a lot more sense. To note though, James Lofton is a damn good man though, he's not that far out there imo. To me his demenor is Dungy'ish, a think a little more emoitional then Dungy. Lofton could be a player (pun) someday.

I thought I read somewhere once that Al loves these interviews to see how different people think and approach the game.
Besides, he also likes helping out people part of the Raider family and this might be some preperation for Lofton to become a Head Coach someday |

I dont mind the Lofton interview. Nice to mix it up, and pull out names not heard from in a while.
