DE Abraham Maybe Goner

Man, I would love this dude. Burgess and Abraham for 5-7 years on the DL - rotate with Hamilton. With Sapp and Jasper as DTs. Groom DTs Hawthorne and Quarshie. See who else pans out in FA and draft. Man that would be a SIC line.

However, according to a highly placed NFL source familiar with the thinking of the Jets brass and who spoke only on the condition of anonymity, Jets owner Woody Johnson is "reluctant" to dole out a huge signing bonus to Abraham.

Based on recent contracts that have been signed by some of the league's top defensive ends, Abraham, a three-time Pro Bowl player, likely will command anywhere from $15-20 million in guaranteed money with a long-term deal.

Abraham does want ALOT of coin!!!

And he's worth it...

Believe me, the importance of a edge rusher is at a premium in the NFL...he has grown up too. He was ready to take a big fall after holding out the entire pre-season, but he stayed injury free the whole season, became a better edge defender, is still a menace on the outside, has shed alot of the friends and off the field issues he onc ehad...

He's gone. Jets cant afford him, they'll be facing a couple of years with Pennignton and his big contract among other cap issues...

Ty Law will also be gone!!!

Tommy Kelly at Midlist for a backup. He Is good but hes a player that should rotate in not start. He had 3 sacks in one game and has only had a half since then. Abraham is a great all around player. He can stop the run but can also get himself into double digit sacks. I hope we get another double digit sack artist this offseason, such as Mathias Kiwanuka, Mario Williams or Abraham. Or how about Darren Howard? isnt he on thin ice over at NO?

I think that getting either Abraham or Howard would free us up to take Nagata out of Oregon with our first pick. then we would have a line that with some growth would become a terror on opposing Offenses.
DE- Burgess
DT- Sapp
DT- Nagata
DE- Abraham/Howard

I would not complain at that lineup for sure. but will it happen? Only Al knows.

Sorry, but I don't judge D linemen based on the number of sacks they post. Tommy Kelly IS an everydown, starting calibar lineman. Don't forget that he spent most of his time at D tackle with run responsibility and he did very well. It was when he got spot duty at D end that he consistently pressured the QB.
As far as Abraham, he is actually pretty weak against the run. Because of his propensity to get up field, teams routinely run right at him with success.

That would some Nasty O lines. But 15 - 20 Mil.. in guarenteed money.. I dont know.. thats eating some serious cap.

If we draft right, which we haven't over the last few years, we could have a sick, serious O line.
