Rumor out of Philly

I got an e-mail from a buddy from Pa titled "keep your garbage!!!!" He said that he heard on one of the radio stations that the Eagles are looking to aquire either Jerry Porter or Doug Gabriel/Tui & a possible late round pick for one of their safeties (Lewis or Dawkins). Kinda sounds like crap to me. I wouldn't mind either one of these guys in ou D backfield. Reasons why it may or may not happen:

May: TO is gone, need a #1 reciever and JP could be that guy. McNabb has been rumored to be gone in the offseason and even if he stays Tui is much better suited for their O and GAbriel just sweetens up the deal cuz he is a stud but I'm not sure if he's #1 material yet. Lewis is young and improving which is why I think it more likely Dawkins is the guy they are takling about. 10 or so years in the league and we all know how Al likes his vets.

May Not: JP just resigned so philly would have to pick up a lot of his bonus to make it worth it to us.

Thoughts??

And no I can't find a link on Raiders or Phill rumor mills....another reason why it might be bullsh!t

The Eagles wanted JP last year. If we can get a proven DB from Philly in return I'd do the deal. I rather keep Gabs though.

Well, #1, why would McNabb be gone in the off season? Because he had an abdominal hernia that required surgery? You know, you recover from that type of thing. Then what? You are back to what you were, a top 5 quarterback in the NFL.

So, I don't put any stock in that.

However, insurance for a backup makes sense. Players over 30 have a tendency to go pretty quickly. Once hurt, they are hurt more often and take longer to heal. So Tui as insurance is a smart idea. Sweeten with one of our wide outs? Sure. Why not. Raiders have some good wide receivers and even though JP is considered one of our big guns, there is something to be said about committment, focus, preparation and performance. He has had more drops this year I can remember and dropped passes change the course of a game.

I mistakenly thought we were in good shape with our cap next year. I was wrong. We are going to be 20 mil over. This is without of course the new cap figure for the new NFL contract.

How can you save 20 mil quickly and easily? Cut Kerry Collins (easily done) and let CWood walk as a FA (sad however, they didn't miss him that much did they this year). Also, CWood has been injured a lot these past 4 years. Hasn't made the pro bowl in those 4 years too.

Trade Porter and Tui for a big time safety with those moves above and you just did pretty good for yourself cap wise and improving the team.

Ask me if this deal can be done, do it.

i really think a draft day deal will get done with either Philly or Sea for Porter.

Radio DJ Madden players who eat cheezwhiz cheesesteaks and dream of knowing crap about football. I hate Philly fans - they are stupid, and the problem is - is that they dont know it. If we trade JP, his $8-10M in guarantees are accelerated against our cap.

Tui has one year left and the Raiders will ride it out with Walter (1), and Tui and a vet battling for the 2 spot. Tui has very little trade value.

gabriel (the only WR with value that we will not get killed on the cap) and a mid to late pick might get Dawkins. I think that is more realistic.

Man, I'd take SS Lewis in a heartbeat!!! That's EXACTLY the kind of deals we need to be looking in to making. I like Porter but I like Gabriel too. I think Gabriel has more of an upside at this point. He's unproven and hungry. I think Porter wants out of Oakland but that's just my 2 cents.

As far as the deal??? HELL YEAH. Lewis for a 3rd rouder & Porter??? Run it!!!

Sounds good! But I doubt that will happen. Both Safeties are good players and all....but why would we put a strain on our salary cap even more?

Its a rumor and I think it will stay a rumor... no offense to anyone.

This is obviously bs based on the rumor that "McNabb may not be back".
YEAH RIGHT!!!! He's their backbone, heart and soul and he tried to battle through an abdminal hernia. Any rumor that suggests him going anywhere holds no water imo.
