Belichick's contract up soon?

http://patriots.bostonherald.com/pat...60&format=text

Quote:
ESPN analyst Chris Mortensen had jaws dropping across New England on Monday night when he speculated that any team searching for a head coach this offseason may want to wait and see if Belichick “pops free” from the Pats.

Only two people know for certain what Belichick’s contract status is — he and owner Robert Kraft.

And the last time they let anyone know about it was during the 2003 training camp when they announced Belichick’s two-year extension (agreed to a full year before) through the 2006 season.

The ensuing silence started to generate some speculation.

However, the clear impression of some insiders is that Belichick and Kraft hammered out another extension and just haven’t announced it. Again, no one knows how long it runs for, but a good guess would be through the 2008 season. According to author David Halberstam, the length of personnel director Scott Pioli’s new deal — his old one was set to expire this spring — is three years.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Pioli and Belichick were linked.

The Pats would make one of the most bone-headed moves in the history of professional sports if they were to let Bilichick get away. It's not going to happen. It can already be argued that this Pats team of the past 5 seasons has been the best ever. If they continue as they are, they will be hands down. Hate the Pats if you will but, recognize who and what they are: 3 time SB Champs in 4 seasons - and alive for another run. And, it's due mostly to the Bilichick and Brady combo.

Belichick will be a Patriot for life.

Besides, I couldn't see him in Oakland, as awesome as that would be.
