Jim Haslett is an excellent coach put in a tough spot this season and because he coaches for the Saints. Given what has happened this year in the New Orleans area and how difficult it has been for the Saints moving around and playing everywhere. I would say that Haslett has done the best anyone could do under the given conditions. No one in the NFL has had to deal with what he has dealt with this season. He is a D-minded head coach and just what the Raiders need at this moment. He is very fiery and will need control in order to coach. Conventional wisdom would say that Al Davis will not hire such a coach but stranger things can happen so you never know for sure. One thing is for sure, Haslett is burntout with the Saints and needs to coach for someone else. He is most likely leaving the Saints after this season.

I would not put that much credence into his W/L record. Why? Because anyone who coaches for the AINTS is a Brave man...

I never liked Haslett, but one thing he does is he can put players on defense in position to make plays now granted the Saints defense is horrible but Haslett is constantly putting them in position to make plays and there constantly letting him down

I often wonder how much the orginization has to do with how good of a job a head coach can ultimately do. There are a lot of items that are outside of a coaches realm that may ultimately impact how he does. I have to admit the one thing I like about Haslett is that he is a disciplinarian, or at least seems to be. His tenure with the Saints has been marred by a running back who has been perinnially hurt, inconstinincy at QB, and other player issues that may have been outside of his control. I believe I would accept him as a head coach. Does anyone know if he knows when to go for two points in the hope of making it a one score game versus a two score game? If he does he has to be better than Norv...

Haslett might be fine, but i'd look further then him if I were the Raiders.

Well Put RaiderFan2388.......I agree.....almost anyone would be better than Norv and I'm sure Haslett would be an improvement....BUT.....We need more than just an improvement.....we need a HEAD COACH that can WIN.....Haslett has a lot of talent in N.O. and hasn't done much.....I understand this season is a lost cause and that isn't all his fault....but I think we can do better

Yes, he does and his clock management and challenging the officials during game skills are 10X better than Norv. He also chews out his players when they do something really stupid. He is also willing to say F-off to the NFL at his press conferences when he is mad. He is not going to try to find the silver-lining when his team is playing bad. Bottomline, I like his energy and passion for the game... |
